0560/61 Detent, Lock, Weight...

I am having a hard time believing people are criticizing a knife this good at such a reasonable price point. I will say this, everyone can whine about the detent being too strong until they have a knife (tip up or down) open up in their pocket. I'd rather my finger have to work a bit harder than throw out a perfectly good pair of pants from being blood stained, oh yeah, and the whole having my leg sliced open thing. Besides, detents soften up just like everything else. I have a couple of good knives I no longer carry because their detent is toast.

But anyways, I think the 0560/1 is the first truly modern ZT knife to come out yet. It's funny when most people talk about a knife and they talk about features. Oh it has this steel, and this lock, and this handle material. With the 0561 it never ends. It's got a pivot that uses a bearing system, a flipper, thumb studs as blade stops,a 3D milled Ti exterior, a 3D milled Ti interior, 3D milled G10 scale, etc...It's a better mousetrap. I mean I am having a hard time explaining everything to people who ask about 0561. Please don't lose the thumb stud blade stops, they look very cool, and work very well on my example. If anything I would expect them to negate side-to-side bladeplay since they have a wider stance than your typical stop pin.

As for the rough edges, that's what callouses are for:D

I LOVE having the thumb studs and flipper as a means to open the 0560 and I can use one just as easily as the other. I admit that it took me a few days to really get good at using the thumb studs (I wouldn't allow myself to use the flipper at first) but once my thumb became accustom to the motion needed to flip the blade open it was worth the effort. Now I don't have to even think about it to flip the knife open with either the flipper or thumb studs and I'd always prefer to have both options if possible. I personally wouldn't like the knife as much if it used a standard stop pin IF that meant that it didn't still have thumb studs. Once again ZT made the right decision.

I'm glad that this knife has the stout detent; you want that blade held in place until YOU decide for it to be deployed. If the knife had been super easy to open right out of the box I would have been concerned about how well the blade would have stayed put when not in use. I have a BM Skirmish 630BK (great knife) that the detent has become worn down and let me tell you that having a big sharp blade that flies out easily can be a problem...a painful one if your not careful. I think its unreasonable to expect ZT to have a knife like the 0560/61 setup right out of the box to please everyone, what's perfect for one user would be too tight or too lose for another.

In my opinion, I don't know how the ZT 0560/61 can be seen as anything but an unparalleled success and a true bargain that sets a new benchmark for quality and features at its price point.

I noticed the liner under the G10 scale is recessed by the jimping on the lock bar ... as if its inviting people to sand down the G10 to their tastes for exposing the lockbar....

I’ve also heard of those complaining about sharp edges and the piece needs a bit of softening. We’ve heard you and will massage future parts a bit longer so to keep the pain to a minimum. Personally it hasn’t really bothered me, but I can understand the complaint.

I’ve addressed the comments on the weight and feel earlier.

For the most part I’m satisfied with your initial reviews , and appreciate the input. We’ll continue to refine the 0560’s to the point where they are dialed in perfectly, but wanted to address some of the threads I’ve been seeing over the last little bit. We do know that not everyone will feel the 0560 is what they were expecting, but are hoping there are realistic expectations as well.

Oh could someone use one already!!!:)

Thanks again for the support and valued input with the ZT line-up.
Hi Thomas,

Will future refined batches of 0560/0561 have any clear indications to signify improvements being done? (Eg. being advertised and sold as a gen2? Or new model number, say 0562?)

Because I've sold my previous 0560 but wanted to buy an improved version without getting back the same issues. If ZT could smoothen all the sharp edges, pop in a ti liner/full ti scales as well as a ti pocket clip and call it a 0562, that would be an absolute ZT grail!!

I'd like to get a 561 from a dealer not from the secondary market and eagerly await the arrival of more at the dealers.

Both my 0560's have a very good balance of blade retention, and ease/strength of detent. The blades deploy with ease, but not TOO easily, which gives me confidence the blade will not release unintentionally. My first one was a little sticky, but smoothed up after a few days of use. My second (much higher serial number) was perfect out of the box. It is a mechanical tool, which sometimes need a bit of break-in.

I can sort of see where some reviews say the jimping takes away from deployment. But it doesn't bother me. Sometimes when i flip the blade out with my index finger, the area where the skin tucks under my finger nail catches the sharp corner of the jimping, making it uncomfortable. but that happened 1 time out of 40 flips?

obviously user error :)

Quick video of using my thumb for deployment vs index. Works well and since the thumb is less sensitive and stronger, it just deploys like a laser.
