0777 on FS Forum Getting Top Dollar

Its about some guy taking a spot on the list just to make $300 or more off a person who wasn't able to get on the list in time. That is a prick thing to do. They didnt want the knife, they wanted to charge us a stupid price for something we would love to own. Its a douche bag move. The secondary market, and demand crap is just a tool to allow the seller to be an a-hole. They are still a douche for doing it.

Finally a wise man speaks out. Does anyone else have any $300.00 questions?

Supply and demand. I don't see why people get so bent out of shape when this happens.

I agree that people should not be buying them with the intention of flipping them, but it's a free county.

I would love to have a 0777 but I won't pay that kind of money for one because I would carry and use it.

I dont disagree with them being able to, or the arguments of why they are successful or any of the economic jargon being thrown around. Seems like people like to justify the actions my saying there is "deman" there is "supply" there is "bla bla." I think most people understand how it works. But wouldn't most of all you guys think its a d-bag/prick move to do what these guys are doing? If you don't you might want to do some self reflection :D

Yeah, I do. You still haven't answered my question...

I could not agree more. Jill is one of the savviest buyers on the forum. Who would pay over $900.00 for a $300.00 knife?

Here's my question again...

Just curious, but where did you come up with your $300 figure?

Curious, but what does this have to do with my question, which you took as an answer?

So to reply to your quote directly above, yes. I have a question. Where did you come up with your $300 figure?

That's a lot of quotes bro. Most people know where I came up with the $300.00.

What $300 figure:D:D Isn't it more like 450 preorder price, that's still Only about 1/2 of the $800-$900 scalpers prices out the now.

I don't either.

The pre-orders on most sites were $480. The MSRP was $600 and multiple folks from KAI have said that they SHOULD have charged much more for it, as the materials and labor involved made the knife worth more than $600. The knives are now selling for anywhere between $800-$1150.

Where's the $300, again.

Its alright, I really don't think he knows where it comes from, either, but he's too far into it now, so its just easier to pretend that it was logical and act like everyone else is an idiot for not understanding.

Lets just leave it at this. Yeah, there are some folks out there who lack scruples, who got in on pre-orders solely for the chance to make money by reselling the 0777's at exorbitant prices. Not a very nice thing to do, but on the other hand, many people have had to think of themselves and no one else at some time in their life when it came to making money,

the market right now is supporting those prices and will continue to do so until people stop buying them at such a markup. Are people stupid for spending that much for an 0777? Well, subjectively, thats for each person to decide on their own. Objectively, I guess we won't know until later. If, ten years down the road, the 0777's are selling for $1500 or $2000, then spending $850 on one right now doesn't seem like that bad of an idea.

To each his own.......live and let live, or die.........only God can judge..........can't we all just get along

Don't attack me personally. I'll hold off judging you for your ambitious pricing. How many would you buy at $850.00 to reap $2000 down the road?

Nope. I get more pride in ownership than I do with a $1200 profit. I could sell my TiLT for double what I paid, but I won't, because I have more pride in owning it, than selling it. I'm also not a douche like that :D

Thank you, sir. I wish that I could use one to cut through some of this bull$h!t. :D

Good man. You use that beaut!!

Let me weigh in on the $300 mark... If the MSRP is $600 then the wholesale price is probably about $300. I don't believe that KAI was able to amortize tooling and engineering on this knife to hit the $300 mark. Because it is a limited run, I suspect that the bump to 1000 units was to cover prototyping costs. The Volt 3600 (which I have stashed away and secretly rub at night when it calls my name and I respond, "My Precious") must have been a loss because of the issues with the brazing and the abbreviated run.

Halo Projects, as they are called (like the Ford GT500 program that I worked on), are loss leaders and never make money. They make the papers and win the awards; they get the free advertising; they get you into the store front. Leeks and Blurs and Tremors make the profits.

And BTW, no Ford GT500 made it to a customer at sticker price. I don't agree with it --- but I understand.

300?:D

I have the hardest time understanding why anyone would think the secondary market prices are worth getting so riled up about. So far all the threads about the 0777 contain such ridicules nonsense. This happens with every limited edition knife any manufacture comes out with and will continue to do so. We all knew it would happen with this one. I mean is there a single person who is surprised? My guess on the final value the 0777 would settle on was exactly $300 above the average dealer selling price, it is that kind of a knife imho. Of course only time will tell what the actual value will be.

Unfortunately the fine folks at Kershaw/ZT that work so hard to design and build these exceptional knives will have to endure 3 more ridicules discussions when the other LE knives are released.

I do find it most interesting that the other two major knife manufactures "sprint run" knives lack the intensity in scrutiny with respect to secondary market prices that KAI knives get.

There is no link to a 300 dollar price, we know there's not. If MH thinks it's worth that fine. I think people just get a bit emotional about nice knives they'd love to own but feel they are going for too much. I know I'd love to get one for a good price, but I'm not going to get upset about it because it's just a knife when it all is said and done. Owning it won't make me a better person, nor will it make my life complete. All it will do is make me the owner of a nice knife, that's all.
