0777 on FS Forum Getting Top Dollar

There is no link to a 300 dollar price, we know there's not. If MH thinks it's worth that fine. I think people just get a bit emotional about nice knives they'd love to own but feel they are going for too much. I know I'd love to get one for a good price, but I'm not going to get upset about it because it's just a knife when it all is said and done. Owning it won't make me a better person, nor will it make my life complete. All it will do is make me the owner of a nice knife, that's all.

I think Jill said it best. But I guess I'm one of the bad people sticktodrum is all bent out of shape about. When I got on the pre-order list I had no intention of selling it. By the time it was released I new I would end up selling it because I would have a hard time using a $500 knife, but I wanted to see it first hand. And yes I made some money on it and don't feel bad one bit.;)

I could not agree more. Jill is one of the savviest buyers on the forum. Who would pay over $900.00 for a $300.00 knife?

Its about some guy taking a spot on the list just to make $300 or more off a person who wasn't able to get on the list in time. That is a prick thing to do. They didnt want the knife, they wanted to charge us a stupid price for something we would love to own. Its a douche bag move. The secondary market, and demand crap is just a tool to allow the seller to be an a-hole. They are still a douche for doing it.

Finally a wise man speaks out. Does anyone else have any $300.00 questions?

I think it would take a bit more than wisdom to understand your original quote the way that BobSig did. I'd call it something more like clairvoyance. No one is attacking you here Mossyhorn, but your phrasing plainly suggested that the knife was worth $300 not that the seller would make a $300 profit. That may not have been your intent, but that is the way that most people would interpret what you wrote. No biggie, we understand you now. If you really feel that this knife is only worth $300, you are welcome to your opinion. I have an intimate knowledge of the cost of materials, machine time, processing, and labor that went into this project, so I will rely on the facts on this issue.

As to this topic in general - we live in a capitalist country, and this is how supply and demand works. I understand people's frustrations, but there's really nothing that can be done about it. Look at the market for Modern sporting rifles and standard capacity AR mags right now. At the heat of the demand, people were charging $50 and up for a $13 Pmag. I bought a rifle for $1600 in mid December and saw the exact same rifle go for $2800 a week later. I don;t like it, but there is really nothing we can do to stop the free market. I understand the pain of those who are frustrated by this, but it happens every time we release an anticipated new product.

Jill always brings common sense to the forum. I plan on buying a ZT0777 and giving Jill first crack at buying it at a very good price.

Don't attack me personally. I'll hold off judging you for your ambitious pricing. How many would you buy at $850.00 to reap $2000 down the road?

I'm not attacking you personally. You made an erroneous statement that you couldn't back up, and then simply hemmed and hawed when people started questioning you.

How many would I buy? One.

I bought one 0777 at the price of $600 and I have no intention of selling it, even if I could make a large profit. I'm a knife buyer and knife collector and I appreciate this knife for what it is. I'm not nearly as rich as many of the collectors on these forums and I own many knives that I could make a fair profit on if I sold them, but thats not why I do this. Will I sell a knife or two in the months or years to come? Sure, if I find something I want more. I pre-ordered the 0888Max and I know that I'm going to sell a couple of knives before long to cover the $500 that I'm going to have to have in the account when the charges come through, but if I sell a knife for more than I bought it for, that doesn't make me as ass, just makes me a guy who is selling something that I own, that I purchased, for the price that someone is willing to pay for it. Thats it.

At the same time, someone else may think that spending hundreds of dollars on knives is the most ridiculous thing they have ever heard. I, personally, think it is beyond reason that people spend $10,000 on a dress for their daughter's Glitz pageant only to walk away with a $500 savings bond or scholarship IF they win, but you know what, I'm not going to ridicule that person for doing what they like and want to do. IF you have the money and want to spend it, then do as you will..........and since its your money, you have the right to do so without hearing someone else whine about it.

In essence, all I'm really saying is that people don't have a right to be critical of other's buying or selling choices. They don't know what motivates those choices. If I bought my 0777 for $600.00 and then suddenly my wife had to go to the Emergency Room and health insurance didn't cover the whole bill and I could sell the knife for $900.00, you bet your ass I would. Who can tell me that is wrong?

At $600.00. I think you would have done well to hem and hall. Jill will get a much better deal.

I be surprised if anyone could get this knife under retail unless they were already locked into a preorder for the $480. I'm sure the dealers know what the secondary market is commanding right now so why not charge full retail and make a little extra too!

I'm only quoting the post #86 by Jestersinthemoonshine. "I'm not attacking you personally. You made an erroneous statement that you couldn't back up, and then simply hemmed and hawed when people started questioning you".
