1/300 SHBM Mod!

Wow... that does look like a tricky one.

Excellent results though... it looks very agile now. :)

actually he didn't change the agility, it came like that from factory. He made it real satinee purty and put a nice convex edge on it.:D

Ah... thanks for the photo.... I had it in my head as a much thicker beasty.

So... who ownes it now?... is it Resinguys?

I don't know who to congratulate. :D

no most SHBM's were ground nearly perfect by Busse and they were in the 0.25 to 0.28 range in thickness. All where different because they were hand ground, so I have not had two SHBM's that were the same length or thickness. But all feel agile.

When Ban made his FABM he unknowingly recreated the SHBM balance with a fussion handle.

the only big busse blade more agile than the SHBM is the ZTBM and that one is a jewel in desguise.:D

But I have to Thank Ban for the great job he did.

He should also thank me for the privilage of working on such a historic beast and learning how to remove slotted bolts. It's like a training class.:D

Ban,

Awsome, just amazing.
How about I send you a SHBA with slotted bolts to tackle next?

Wow. That takes some cajones to put a knife like that to a grinder! Great work as always, Ban! Did you have to take a slug or two of scotch before you began to steel your nerves?

My own, more limited observations fit Cobalt's to a 'tee.' Mine is 0.26" with an extremely sharp and unexpectedly thin edge (still the original factory edge).

I haven't had the courage to chop with it ... yet ... since I only have one of these beauties. I have definitely noticed how agile it is. I do not have a ZTBM, but I can state that this SHBM handles far more easily than all the other variations of the BM.

Every once in awhile, I get an overpowering urge to ask Ban to recreate his FABM from one of my FFBMs. Over time, that urge is getting stronger. :)

Too bad SHBMs were not selling for $300 then they'd make good users; like the Basic 9s are.;)

But the great thing about the old SHBMs is that you can heat them up to about 1500 degrees before you mess up the HT, I told Ban to test this on Cobalts when I called to give Ban his new address.

Yes, it's mine, thanks. I told Ban he could play with it a bit and post pics before he shipped it back to me.

Yes that is correct. I am still a little surprised as to how similar both of them feel. The balance, weight, and agility are nearly identical. The only difference is the handle shape.

I personally think that the SHBMs are Perfection straight from the factory. What is funny is that at one point both Cobalt and I were arguing about how perfect our respective BMs were in a "My knife is better than yours!" type of conversation :D Now that I have gotten a chance to handle them side by side.... I now understand why he loves his SHBMs so much.

Here are some interesting weight comparisions.

FABM 1lb 4.1oz
SHBM 1lb 4.6oz

HHFSH 1lb 6.7oz
FSH Mags 1lb 7.6oz
FSH Proto 1lb 11.1oz
FFBM 1lb 15.9oz
ASH1 1lb 4.9oz
HR MAGS 15.9oz
BATAC 12.4oz
ABIBB 10.9oz

For you chubby chasers out there. The CGASH1s with a 5 1/2" blade is actually heavier than my FABM and Cobalt's SHBM with 9" blades :D

And my 7" blade Anorexic BIBB is only half the weight of a ASH1 with 5 1/2" blade :eek: Couple of weeks from now it will lose some more weight in rear end when I taper the tang.

Wow!!! Is that Dennis's? SWEET!!!!

Yeah. It's mine. SEND IT BACK!!!!! ROTFL!

(I wish!)

And I have one of them elusive ZTBM's. I may have stolen it, based on how cool it is to handle. Most mirror-like satin finish I've ever seen on a Busse. Hence my reluctance to use it on anything but beheading infidels.

The Secret is to find an SHBM that you can full power chop with with out pinching your little finger, then to use that one and never, ever sell it.

Seems a little easier to find in the So Called One of Three Hundred, they do make Great users.

But I have to Thank Ban for the great job he did.

I should pay him a meeeeelllion dollars because both my precious 1/300 SHBM and I are such a pain in a$$. I would also like to donate this knife to TonyG for passing along the critical 1500 degree tempering info to Ban. Without it this would have never been possible :D

Ok, that sounds about right :D

Only if you want your slotted bolts coming back as tube fasteners :p

You will need to start out with a CGFBM. It would be too drastic of a weight loss for the FFBMs. They may not handle it too well, nor would my expensive sanding belts :D

Agreed 100%!!!!!!!!!:D:thumbup:

thats some nice work. i have a 1-300 that i use that has some finish wear. ive thought about stripping it but so far have decided no to. your pics have me thinking about it again. out of curiousity how much does a job like that cost and how does it affect the value of the knife.

in my opinion none of the newer styles match the originals. you just cant beat those lines and simple utilitarian curves. ive handled some of the newer ones and although im sure they can take the abuse they just seem a little frilly and more about marketing and collecting.

at the time i bought mine i was making like $9/hr, and my car was only worth about $600, lol. it was a sacrifice to sell some stuff and scrape up the $297 that it cost me. i read some reviews on ASG and dediced to bite the bullet. i was originally looking at the steel heart II and they had just come out with infi and i had the option to buy either the bm or sh in infi. i went with the bm and waited 9 mo to get it. i met the ups guy in the driveway and went straight to the woods and cut down a small tree. i havent regretted buying it and its done everything ive asked it to do. i imagine my son or maybe grandson will be walking the woods with it someday (but not anytime soon). im hoping down the road to see some original styles produced again. i think id pick up one or two more.
