1 of a Kind Becker HA What's that about?

I now understand why I can't get one set of scales off a Camillus Patrol Machete.

Apologies for digging this up but a friend brought this by and I went to digging around, which brought me to this thread. I thought maybe you guys would also be interested in this one. I may just not get the subliminal messages amongst Becker enthusiasts in this thread but does anyone actually have answers about the "one of a kind" thing? Sounds like the steel is 440C? This one looks to have a blasted finish.

Ethan has repeated said that nothing they produced had such labels.

easily added after the fact 20-30 years later though ;)

looks like your basic "div tul" though. see the history links and stuff.

i have a couple, give or take :D just not labeled like that.

Seems to be a lot of these "one of a kind" blackjack backer's popping up lately. Here is one off the bay for a whopping $450

Maybe mike is putting them on himself all these years later haha.

...

In one sense they are one of a kind but, how many of them came from the factory, I have not the slightest idea.......

Sorry, only Mike would have an idea.........

Like I said, I think I'm just not reading between the lines or whatever, but what I was told is that this knife was bought years/decades ago and has sat in a safe. The guy who owns it didn't even remember that the blade was marked like this so we just started digging around online. That's pretty much where my Becker knowledge starts and stops. I saw people talking about fakes. Is that what this is? I searched for "div tul" and it just gives me links of people selling them or talking about them, but nothing that seemed disparaging.

My take is that what you have is a Blackjack manufactured Becker BK3 aka "DivTul." Nothing wrong with it at all, and a lot right with it. However, it's not the only one out there, despite what the engraving says. What makes it one of a kind? It's yours.

But no one apparently knows who/how/why they were marked this way? Ethan mentioned in that earlier post that perhaps there were unfinished parts that got finished, assembled and sold. I'd say that could be an option because this particular knife has blunt serrations (blunt not just dull, like they weren't ground deeply enough to create points) and the edge ahead of the serrations appears to be original but uneven and also not particularly sharp. "One of a kind" in the sense that, these were QC rejects and their flaws are unique. :)

Just read the whole thread, good stuff. I'm interested in the Effingham logo across the ricasso, perpendicular to the spine. I have a Blackjack Magnum marked that way. Mine doesn't have the 'one of a kind' marking on the blade, tho. I may have missed it if this was already answered. Was that normal before or after a certain date/production run, or was it not very common on this model?

Yep saw that 1 also and all done at Blackjack as Prototype's as per Mike Stewart,
My understanding is that was a common practice, as some suggested to sell a factory blem or a tried but not successful design
The 1 Bladite shows with prototype stamped or laser etched has a price of $9,999 but not for sale
The 1 I show in the post that got this started has the #9 so left me a little confused but confirmed by Mike as a Prototype done at the Blackjack Factory. Now another 1 shows up also the Camp, Difference being this 1 has 1 of a Kind Stamp or etch but also has S.S. Stamped as well with the same filled handles
As Luck would have it when Handles Removed This 1 marked #1 also in Marker just like the 1 in the post that turned out to be #9,
So my understanding as best I can surmise is these where the first that left the line at Blackjack and some un sureness as to the final design before production, being as I have the #1 and #9 camps both stamped 1 of a Kind may be at least another 7 , 1 of a Kind Fisk Camps only time will tell
As a side note the Camps done at Blackjack limited to less than 400 produced, and of the 400 Maybe as many as 9 1 of a Kinds
Either way a Great Blade and 1 very rare Blade with or without the 1 of a Kind Stamp

I really wish I could be of some help here...... I will only say that mikey has always seen QC problems as marketing opportunities.....

Ethan

P.s..... The steel is 440A..... I have always preferred it to C...... E
