Hey guys,

So the other day when I was looking at handguns at the local shop, I noticed some Nice looking wetterlings. I took a look at them and was surprised by the F&F of them, they had good grain and straight handles, polished edges, well formed heads and were centered. So, all ready having a good sized axe, I figured I would try out the mini hatchet, pair it with a smaller fixed (nimravus) and a folder and try that on any outings for a while.

So, on to the pics.
First off, a few of my pack with it attached. And a neat little trinket I got from a Gum ball machine!

And the little compass that came from a gumball machine. No fluid, so it wont freeze time will tell if it sticks up, but over all im happy for a buck.

Now to the axe, I was happy when I saw the edge on this one, it was polised somewhat and was very sharp, would pick hairs actually, I stropped it a bit and now shaves fine.

Here is the left-overs of a x-mas tree that I would be using.

A quick chop and it cleaned through a half inch limb, not a big feat, but its nice to see a clean cut like this.

Then I cleaned the tree of the limbs, the ranged from .5 to 1 inch thickness, took maybe a minute.

Did some quick shaving with it, not problems, work very well in fact, and sharp.

Then did some chopping of what was left, this piece was about 3 inchs thick, and after 8-10 chops I was happy with it.

Then 3 chops later.

Bit more to come.....

I then did a bit more shaving of a pre made testing stick for shaving, it did well.

The only grip I have is on the back of the head, at the top left of the hammer end, there is a small burn scar from grinding, just a finish problem, but its the first time I've seen it on a wetterlings.

Over all im impressed with the hatchet, solid user and comes with a perfect sheath, not cardboard like, its supple, and fits very well.
The kicker is that it was 59 plus tax, the only problem with buying localy, but I do like to support local companies so its not a huge deal.
Thanks for reading guys.

Great review  fits real nice on your pack.
Did you do anything to the edge ? or did it just come razor sharp ?

I've got one of the tiny Wetterlings too. I'm not really comfortable using it but they are fine little hatchets. Mine was quite sharp out of the box but I also touched up the edge a little.

I also have the next largest size but both just ride around in the truck and camping van.

Great pics and review Fonly, I keep eyeing those up myself and your post hasn't helped me resist any !!!!

Thanks man, that's good timing. Been looking into those models for a while now.

So, at the end of the day, how did you feel about it versus other small hatchets/axes?

Sweet little hatchet. Looks like something I may be interested in down the road.

That price sure looks a lot better than the $173.00 for the GB mini. I mean, that's up $50.00 from last year! It and the Hunter's axe were the ones that went up the most--the most popular. Not my money, they won't!! I own three of their axes, but no more.
This little Wetterlings looks like a winner to me!

dang it dude. i just bought a new axe! now i'm gonna have to go out and pick up one of those mini's for myself.

thanks for the review :D

Good review and pics!
I have the 13" Wetterlings but i've been curious about the minis!
Can't seem to find any on Ebay, anybody know any North American companies that sell them? (preferably online)

Im not sure, I can look around, but I think off the top of my head www.sworddepot.com should.

its hard to believe thats snow in the pics, here in alice,tx its 96 degrees right now.

Yeah, rub it in.:D
We had Minus 47 the other day.

Really impressed with it, I have a gerber thats comparable, but the Wetterlings is way above that. As for using a knife instead it would depend on geometry and blade length, but its much better than the RC 6 or BK7 I have just for reference.

found out theres a place that stocks em locally and at good prices. gonna have to go down on my day off and take a look see.

hey fonly, how well does it work for splitting and some notching?

cheers
