1000 post

Cool contest thanks for the giveaway.

"I'll make it better"

I try to pick up trash if I can when I see it. I have participated in adopt a highway for the last three years. While cleaning trash off the side of the road is not quite the wilderness, it eventually makes it into the woods. I have found some interesting things while doing it. I found a full size flag, $280, and some old steel that I turned into a knife. unfortunately most of the trash is not that cool.

I'll make it better. I've always picked up empty shell casings when hunting and do major policeing at the range while shooting

Thanks for the opportunity. i'd love to get in on this one and I'll even plant another tree when I get it :)

Thanks for the giveaway.

My plan is to take my 9 year old nephew outdoors more often and expose him to the treasures we find off the beaten path. He's a cub scout and is really chomping at the bit to meet the requirements of being able to carry and use a pocket knife. I hope to open his eyes to nature and give him a sense of responsibility for the wild places he may visit. Instead of one person picking up trash on the trails, we'll have two people doing it.

I plant 10 trees a year in it. I'll make my wilderness area better. Thanks Mike.

Cool:) Some of the trees that burned up were old old growth. Native trees here are somewhat fire resistant. The canyon I go to hadn't burned in over 60 years, so the humus and ground litter was deep. made a bed of coals that took a lot of old growth out that normally would have survived.

I went out ice fishing at a state park today and picked up almost a full garbage bag of bottles and plastic bags. This year I was thinking about planting some evergreens out in the back as well. My neighbor is really good with trees and such, I'll get him to help so I do it right.

"I'll make it better". I always try to pick up trash as I see it on trails or out in the bush. Down by a river that I hike by, I'm always finding empty beer bottles and such...really makes you mad. We go out to enjoy nature and we clean up other people's mess because they don't have the same appreciation for it that we do.

I hope that most of the guys here will pick up some of the trash that find it why in to the backcountry,It's all part of respecting the wilderness and nature.Sometimes I worry about the mind set of the people who do this kind stuff what else can you do?

Yep, very cool idea and very cool knife!
If I win I'm giving it to my son, he's my outdoor buddy anyway!
Although, our char cloth didn't work too good last weekend so we had to resort to the Pocket Rocket for hot chocolate! :)

I drove down to the park today, and I had to give a pep talk to a group of young teenagers. I saw a group of about 10 people out having a snowball fight, so at first I thought nothing of it. Until I noticed there was a lot of fast-food garbage in the snow. I asked if they put it there, and they said "Yea, so what, it will be deposited or whatever" (Yes, deposited, not decomposed)

I than gave them a pep talk. I am really disappointed that many schools these days do not teach kids to not litter.

"I PROMISE to make it better!"

Great idea! A cause near and dear to my heart that I try to employ everytime I'm on the trail.

bumping this. Will be drawing a name at about 17:00 pacific time.
Thanks to all who played.
I know a lot of people here do a lot to keep our wild places in good condition. All deserve a big hand.
I have seen a log of 1000 post giveaways and I wanted to do one that everyone could get involved with.

Thanks, Mike
