What are the feelings about quality knives and 1075. The steel guy was at the plant yesterday and I ran into him at the steel rack and started him on knives. He said they have some surplus 1075 in either 1/16" or 1/8" (wasn't sure) flats. 4" wide and 12" long that he would sell me for $12 apiece. These were extras from some an order for a pulp mill near by. If 1/8" the would be fine for stock removal wouldn't they. If forged would they lose to much carbon? I could probly have some of it cut to shape on a computer controlled panagraph with a plasma head for doing a knife for the guy that runs the equipment.

wait am I missing the math here??
4" X 1/8" X 12'- $12
Admiral is selling 1/8" X 2" X 5 ' is 14.49 it would take 4 of these flats
to be 1/8' X 4" X 10' _53.96 + S & H
That is still 2' shorter

In the first post it says "4" wide and 12" long". One foot only, Tom. I agree, 4" x 12 feet at $12 would be a steel steal, so to speak. :)

see I was missing something. :foot:
At Least I can always count on you Fitz
to keep me on the straight and narrow.
Makes alot of sense now:o

12 ft long 4" wide and I can always take it to work and shear it to any dimension I want. so It is a steel and if it is 1/8" thick I will get about 4 of them then.

Even if it was 1/16th it'd be worth getting most likely, if you don't like thinner knives then at least you can do what others have said and use it for damascus.

Is it 12 feet long, or 12 inches long?:confused: If 12 feet, it's definitely worth $12.

So, I dont see to many people suggesting that 1075 alone makes a knife worth the attempt?

Whats the deal?
Any quality concerns?

From all past posts I have seen it makes a decient blade. I think others have stated it is a bit tougher than 1095 but doesn't quite hold an edge as well. I just received 30' of 1075/1080 yesterday from Admiral. I tried a peice this morning and it grinds nice.
