I kind of bailed on this thread when it turned "philosophical". I just checked back to see whay it's still going.
This blade is the reason I stopped doing 1095 in Canola;
Seems like the thick spots didn't get under the nose. I've read so much about broken 1095 blades that I'm just not going to water or brine. Quench K is a professional product - 9 second is a good speed - it's available locally for realitively cheap (Parks 50 was going to be over $200 by the time I got it here) and it just seemed a no brainer from my POV.
I'm sure there are lots of fine 1095 blades that got quenched in Goddards goop, that perform just fine. Please don't read anything more into my post about Quench K. It's just what I chose and thought you (or others) may want to consider it.
