Love 1095 in any capacity.
It can do it all for me, but there are some other similarly cheap steels that do better in machetes and choppers, and other specialized styles. But 1095 just works for it all well enough for me.

I voted "Good" and "Cats". 1095 is good for many applications, including knives. Well over 1000 of my favorite knives are 1095. I added "Cats" as I thought the pollster included it as in "The Cat's Meow", which is old school slang the best. :D

Probably should have had a "Venison" category since 1095 does well in turning dead deer into venison:p.

One of my older Ontario 18 inch machetes has been working and working for over thirty changes in the seasons. From what I can deduce, 1095 might not be so bad after all. Sure, the edge has had to be maintained, and rust came lurking like an unwanted intruder. I once wondered about how an Ontario in INFI would have performed after such a length in time/use. Hard to say, but the 1095 takes a beating and remains ticking.

These days, I use a few sprays of silicone to keep the oxidization at bay.

I have yet to have a knife rust, and I've used SK-5, 1095, 1095cv, and O1. Rust only happens when you neglect a knife.

O1 sure stains in a hurry.

Take it out and use it in the woods, and by the time you get home that night even, stains.
Or cut up some meat and onions in the kitchen...stains occur even if you oil it right afterwards.

For people who want a patina on their blade though, nothing works better than O1 steel. :)

The People have spoken! 1095 is good, and cats usually smell nice!

I love 1095. Wish we saw it more in modern folders. I know it doesn't hold and edge as well, but it would bring pricepoints way down, sharpens quickly and develops an awesome patina over time. Would love a Manix 2 XL or better yet a Diskin Volcan with a nice earned, not forced, patina.

Nine out of ten cats give 1095 a thumbs up.

1095 is my reality check steel. If I get to over thinking steel, I stroll over the the ESEE website and look at pics of people they know in Peru whose only knife for years is an ESEE that gets used hard. Does fine by them.

I voted meh because it is IMO a middle of the road steel, but I would probably go with good value.

I voted for all choices because I'm ambivalent....but I'm not sure about that either. MEOW!!!!!
