I don't know. Will check next Gembloux.Erik, have Achim/Lohmann cooked more batches of 115W8? It really is great stuff, but the problem was that the only source was his "fun smelt"
Cool. We finally might have a source for O2 over here so we can learn to do the instant coffee trick.I don't know. Will check next Gembloux.
I have a bunch of cheap 02 coming anyway.
AKS has 80CrV2 that they used to sell as 1080+. It is better steel than 1084 and heat treats easily.Well, Chuck over at AKS just won my business. I had a bunch of questions and he responded in the blink of an eye. I have been waiting for a reply from Aldo for over a week now. I still plan on getting my sealegs on the new grinder with 1084 but I did also buy the one last bar of 1.5 inch wide 15N20 they had in .120 stock... should make for some very nice EDC or small Kitchen blades![]()

The coffeetrick works on most steels. No need for O2 for that.Cool. We finally might have a source for O2 over here so we can learn to do the instant coffee trick.![]()

I think most people here are happy to deal with both guys. With Aldo, make a phone call. I'm a nobody hobbyist who barely buys any steel but calling NJSB has always been a pleasure.![]()

He did a run of SC125 last year. A superclean 1.25 carbon steel for the hamonchasers.
Achim Wirtz from Germany. I think he still has some SC125.

115w8 takes a wicked hamon also. Some White #1.25 to go along with his Blue #1.5 aka 115W8?![]()
Erik, I have never used anything other than Parks #50 with the few 115W8 knives that I have made, so I didn't know until long after Toni gave me that first piece at Blade that is was a fairly shallow hardening steel, maybe like 1084. I'm glad I used 15N20 for that damascus that is still sitting on my bench. I will say that the sujihiki that I had at Gembloux in 2013 would make you bleed if you thought about it for too long and that was jus with a belt and buff sharpening at Claude's shop, no fancy water stone or anything like that. I have forged out a lightweight 9 inch by 5 mm+ fighter out of part of that little damascus billet and I think that the rest will be used for a Shigefusa style tall wa handle santoku.115w8 takes a wicked hamon also.
See if he has any more!!!!Warren, I have a price list from Achim from 2015, I can email that to you if interested. Or you can email Achim Wirtz wootz@web.de. I need to talk with him again myself. I had ordered 115W8 from him a couple years ago, he's a good guy, give him a shout.
