I don’t mean to hi jack this thread but I’ve got a question for you guys who know custom knife services or individuals who do custom work on Buck 110/112. I really like the handle on my new January botm 112 and I’m thinking of having one of my 110s rehandled like that possibly my sk silver fox 110. It doesn’t have to be cocobolo, I’m thinking maybe micarta or a stabilized wood. Nothing real fancy as it’s gonna be a user. So if you know someone or a shop that does this kind of service could you pm me. Thanks Les

ps, I now know I should’ve got the sept 2019 botm 110 and finding one for sale at a reasonable price now is probably near impossible.

so this part then......

surprised how many 112 voters there are. wonder if it's due to legal requirements of blade length or more just like smaller blade and/or design etc better?

Legal requirements are not an issue for me. The 112 may be a little brother to the 110, but it's not a small knife, to the contrary, it's more than adequate for my daily use. The extra length of the 110 makes perfect sense for a folding hunter, but I don't find it advantageous as a work knife. Nothing wrong with a 110, if it were the only knife I had, I wouldn't complain. I just don't usually carry knives that size.

How about Buffalo Horn? Buck has a Buffalo horn limited edition 110, with a very similar handle shape, on their web site right now.

st8yd I just noticed the 110 Slim mod ..Fantastic! It never occurred to me how easy that modification is. I'll tell David about it since he likes the hook. Last year I picked up cheep a V1V2 112 (stainless steel spacer) that someone had shaved off the front hook enough so that at first glance it looked like a 110. The blade had been over sharpened and I plan to have Buck put a new one. I too have been impressed by how many votes the 112 has gotten. I'm sure Mr. Hubbard and probably a few other folks at Buck are too. But they have the sales numbers..

It’s a nice looking knife but it’s 420hc = $180. No I don’t think so. If it was S35vn or s30v I would give it a look. The main thing is I’m not interested in a show piece, I’m wanting a working knife with great edge holding and the swelled handle.

Have you considered a 557?
Awesome knife, about the same size as a 110, but actually lighter.
S35v blade, bigger micarta handle. I love mine, and prefer it to a 110 for hunting..... it fits in the 110 nylon sheath.

Thanks, ya the 110 slim pro is actually slightly wider than the 110 allowing the hook to be more like the 112.
Well, there are only 71 votes and this thread was started two weeks ago, and how many hundreds of 110's does Buck turn out in one day? I think I've heard and it's a whole lot more than that. So I hate to say it but we are a very poor sampling.

Overall I like the 110 best...it's just an American icon.
But the 112 is definitely a superstar too.

Both. I got a red amber stag 112 for my 50th birthday. I carry that in my pocket and to work. I'm in a hunting lease that I have access to year around, so I go there alot to squirrel hunt, rabbit hunt, turkey hunt and fish when deer season is out and belt sheath a 110 there.

Surprised to see the 112 ahead in the polls..;) All the 110 love out there has me baffled.. o_O

I like the size of the 110 better, but the 112 is a great knife, so you really can't go wrong either way. I have 3 110s (brass, lt, and slim select) and 2 112s (bucklite 422 and slim pro). I don't feel under knifed with any of them.

I like both of them and use both. I think overall the 110 is more versatile but the 112 especially the Jan BOTM has its strong points providing your hands aren’t to large. I’ve been extremely pleased with this new 112 with S35vn blade and the scalloped cocobolo handle is the most comfortable I’ve ever used and is a beauty. It’s very enjoyable to use and it’s not to bad to pocket carry for a short time.

Personally, I prefer the 112. I often carry the finger grooved version... but there was an ireegularly ground C&C DP 112 that I really like too (thinner front bolster than typical 112). That being said, after the 110 LT came out, the SKBlades 154CM 110 LT usually ends up in my pocket.

I like the front bolster on the 112, but every time I open it, the blade seems strikingly short.

I guess I’m just too used to the 110.

The only thing holding the 112 back IMHO, is it price. Being higher in relation to the 110, makes for a tough decision. “I like the 112, but I can get more for less with the 110”. You really have to know you want the 112.

I understand they have to make more on each one because they don’t sell as many 112’s, but they aren’t selling as many because the cost more.

I think a price reduction is overdue to equal the playing field.

I only have the 112 so that's what I use. Bought about 1991. Belt carried and pocket carried for some years. Not as much these days. Inherited a Buck folder from my uncle, don't know that he ever used it. Same size as the 112 but don't know the exact model. I'll have to search that out a bit. Black "plastic" handle, belt clip, 3 oval holes in the handle. Looks like a 2004 date stamp. Looks like I found it. A 2004 442.
