Gravel-
go with the .45 if you have the option. I hated glocks when i started, but have been carrying a glock 21 for 5 yrs and love it. I've had kimber 1911's, custom 1911's, h&ks, etc and cant shoot anything better than the glock. have the extra rounds over a 1911 is nice too. its funny at training when there is a hold up on the line, its always a 1911(mag change, malfunction, etc).
i switched our dept out of the glock 22's and 23's and into 21sf's this fall and the officers couldn't be. the .40 is very "snappy" with recoil. it wants to twist out of your hands, especially on rapid fire drills. this is due to ammo companies taking a smaller projectile(.40 cal) and speeding it up to equal the ballistics of a slower/heavier round(.45 cal). according to Glock, the 21 has 30% less recoil that the 22 :) you can definitely tell when you shoot them side by side. i added arredondo +4 mag extensions, to bring the mag capacity to 17!

Large- I know what you mean by snappy... at least out of the glock,, but have you had the opportunity to try a sig? I hate to sound like a commercial,, but my 229 does not have that wrist twist out of the .40 that the glock had. much more stable, I thought. I might be biased of course because I'm a sig junkie but I still prefer the .40 to a 9mm or a .45,,,, just my own humble of course,,,

also, correct me if I'm wrong,, but wasn't the .40 s&w's answer to the 10mm?

17 cap mag?! thats very nice... for civi's a high cap mag is a sad 12

I know you weren't asking me but .40s&w is a shorter, less powerful version of the 10mm. The FBI requested development of it after finding the 10mm recoil too strong.

There's nothing wrong with the .40 but I also prefer the .45acp.

We also have Glocks at works,,, I hate the trigger,,,

Get a Heckler & Koch,,, there's no challenge if you're looking for a reliable, good shooting service pistol,,,

ps: and it's got the same initials as my favourite knifemaker's stamp,,, HK :D

Super blade J.

I will go with Chibbi nothing will make me change H&K.

Talking about those calibres, have you guys try the .357 SIG? I have a Steyr .357 SIG, I like it more than the Glock .40, but this is like alcohol… if you like it...

i guess i'm not sure of the exact history of the .40cal round, but a rep from ATK (they make federal, speer, etc) explained it to me that in order to get comparable ballistics to a .45, they have to speed up the smaller .40 round. also the chamber pressure of the standard .40 cal is around 35000psi, compared to the .45, which is around 21000psi. this extra pressure gets passed back to the shooter in the form of recoil. i haven't tried the sig .40, but sig definitely has a good reputation. maybe i'll have to check it out, if you say its legit.

true story. hk's are nice. my only issue with them is the price/availabilty of parts, mags, etc.
