.

Hello, i'm new to the world of knives and just purchased my first clone sebenza off a popular auction website, mostly out of curiosity. I'm seeing some subtle differences but nothing major, aside from the price. Over the next few weeks i'll be performing some lab test on the metal and some field testing too. Will keep the forum updated with the results...
Welcome to the forum. Just to let you know, the Chris Reeve Knives subforum isn't the place to post a review of a counterfeit Sebenza. That being said, it is a large forum and I'm sure you'll find some place else where a review like that would be welcome.

Prepare yourself for the flames.
They will be plentiful.

To maintain a balance, mention something about Cold Steel and San Mai...

Who are the experts you are sending it to and what/how will they test?

There is no such thing as a "clone" Sebenza.

These are just fakes which are the theft of the brand and intellectual property of CRK.

By buying this fake you have helped perpetuate this theft. You have essentially purchased stolen property.

Too bad the people who make these don't just make a legit titanium knife of their own design, or even titanium aftermarket scales and handles for other knives. If they kept the pricing structure of the fakes, they'd sell tons.
I'm jealous of their abilities.

Chinese copies of Reeve, Spyderco and other brands are very damaging. If you want to buy a Chinese-made knife of quality that isn't ripping off another company (that I know of), then look at Real Steel and Kizer. Or a China-made Kershaw or Byrd.

Reeve suffers nothing from the clones.
Neither does Hinderer, Strider, any of the Swiss watchmakers, etc.
No one buys a fake when they WOULD have bought the real item.
They may claim the clones devalue their product, but high-end mfgrs are doing quite well, and if anything, the clones are putting the name out there even more than the big advertising budgets.

The people that can get hurt by the clones are the ones who get duped into buying a fake and paying the "real" price.
But, it's really up to the buyer to cover their own butt.
"Caveat emptor".

For your next act, go to the FBI or Department of Justice websites and start telling people that your counterfeit $20 bills can buy anything that a real $20 can buy. As others have already said, there is a big difference between full on counterfeit and just looking similar. Knowingly importing a purely counterfeit item is actually criminal in nature. Sure, way down the food chain, but it is what it is. Good luck with your "test". :D

You should have keep this quiet until you had the results...

Cause this is just going to be a big burn fest....

I could give 2 sharts if you can't afford the real one ...

It's that it brings that junk to our shores ...

Then little rat bastards will try to pass it off as legit .. and some noob collector will buy it thinking he's getting a good "deal"......

This is my problem with this ..... after your test you should destroy the specimen as to not let it back into the wild.

Everytime I buy a strider or when I get a reeves or whatever. I'm just a little bit leary ,when not buying new from a dealer..... so far so good ( as far as I know lol)
If clones weren't around I wouldn't have to care so much

Personally I find it difficult to take this thread seriously. It's more likely just an attempt at drama. However, since this is supposed to be about knives and not politics, do your 'field testing', ignore those breaking the rules and post your findings. Forget legality/morality(mods did leave this up), and prove you're serious. How's the heat treat on that (D2?)?

I'm curious legality aside, can the quality compare to the real deal? If the trademark and design were changed enough, can this 'maker' stand on his own?

Personally, I bet the hubbub ain't worth it and you bought a cheap p.o.s. G'luck with that.

This is about knives, as in don't support the scummy counterfeiters of the legit knife brands and watch your fingers while testing this counterfeit knife.
