1471 Post Giveaway... We have a winner!. Congrats RetiredGuns!

Well, I don't like tantos, don't like lockbacks, and I prefer harder steels than Aus-8, so I'm biased from the outset, but I'm open to trying new knives, and I've been wanting to try a CS to see whether the hate is warranted. At least I won't complain about the fact that it's tip up.

Also, I may be a Northerner born and bred, but southern food, especially nice spicy cajun food, sure as hell gives lobster rolls and chowder a run for their money. Pulled pork, fried catfish, jambalaya, cole slaw, cornbread (!!!) and then there's tex-mex. You guys get all the best food!

I hate Cold Steel and they'll never see any of my money. That said, I wouldn't mind trying one of their knives, objectively. I've been pondering a "beater" knife, and I can't deny that a Cold Steel Voyager was one that I was looking at (CRKT, Kershaw, and Byrd being the others). Receiving one second-hand wouldn't violate my principles of not giving them money, so, if I qualify in your mind, then I'm in for this giveaway.

I do own a couple knives labeled "Cold Steel", but both are small stockmans, manufactured by Camillus and purchased from a former employee of Camillus (at the auction), and never delivered to Cold Steel, so as far as I'm concerned, those stockmans are Camillus knives rather than Cold Steel, in addition to the fact that CS has no currently comparable model. If this fits your definition of not owning any CS products, as it does mine, then I'll gladly partake in your giveaway and thank you for the chance.

As for saying something positive of the south...I can only say that I don't have any real experience with it, having grown up mostly in the Mid West. I like The Band, Skynard, ZZ Top, and SRV though. The blues, and thus Rock & Roll came from the South, so at the very least, I have to thank the South for that. Even the great British bands like Led Zepplin, the Rolling Stones, and the Beatles wouldn't be what they were without the Blues from the Deep South of the USA.

Ive diligently avoided CS since I got into knives and have literally never owned one. Interesting gaw though.

The best thing about the south has got to be the food and the ladies (did I have to pick one thing?)

Thanks again man.

I don't own any CS knives, so I qualify!

And something I like about the South: Their gun laws aren't anything like California's. You lucky people and your detachable 10+rd magazines :(

Im in, I never owned a CS knife but I would try it out, so I am in.

As for the south, they make the whiskeys that I like to drink

I guess I will play on the grounds that I am pretty sure I hate that knife. I could care less that it is Cold Steel, the reason I don't have any Cold Steel knives has nothing to do with hate and everything to do with me being satisfied with other knives I already own.

I'm not going to bash on CS (I don't have any informed opinion). But because you have this GAW for haters count me in. That knife looks like something I hate based on its physical attributes alone....so I'd be happy to bash on it physically.

I am reasonably confident that the steel will do a reasonable job. It's the handle shape and blade shape that I think I will not find useful.

Then again I am not sure why anyone would want to change my mind on these things...

Receiving one second-hand wouldn't violate my principles of not giving them money

This is exactly what I was trying to get across, but I couldn't find the words. This give-away is for people who wouldn't want to spend money on CS, but would be willing to try one for free.

But because you have this GAW for haters count me in.

I would like to clarify that just because you play, doesn't mean I am calling you a hater!

Then again I am not sure why anyone would want to change my mind on these things...

If I am going to do a give-away, I might as make it quasi-educational.

Awesome idea. I wouldn't say I am a hater but I have not given them the time of day either. Although there have Ben a few I wanted to try.

What do I love about the south, I love the weather, the people and the hunting!! Wouldn't live anywhere else

I own many Cold Steel knives so no entry. I do have a story from the south real quick. One year in Savannah, Ga we stopped at a local greasy spoon diner. When we got inside we were vastly outnumbered, color wise. As we are of a lighter shade than the patrons we got full on glares from all of them. We ordered and ate and it was all good. The only hitch was we got tomato gravy on our homefries instead of beef, chicken or turkey gravy. Never heard of tomato gravy but it was great. Take care.

The thing(s) I love about the South, in no particular order: Soul food, real sweet tea, not much snow, beautiful summer evenings, and the list can go on for a while but I'll stop there.

Thanks for the chance.

Count me in I don't have any CS and I would love to put one of these through some work. I was actually thinking of an American Lawman or a Voyager as a work blade:thumbup:

Please count me in, and thank you for the GAW...I'll beat the snot out of that thing and let ya know what I think about it :D
I have never owned anything Cold Steel...

Well...I live in the south... Sweet Tea with buiscits and gravy is pretty good ...Can't beat the weather...but the Folks around here is what I love about the south...'Nuff said :D

I think you should remove my entry.

I have no real qualms with Cold Steel at all. On the other hand, my opinions of Cold Steel's products tend to directly oppose those of their biggest fans: I don't buy into the hype of the Tri-Ad lock. As for their steel choice, I think AUS8 is "okay", but I don't believe for a second that it holds a candle to higher-end steels being used by Cold Steel's competitors. So while I'd be willing to offer a fair review based on hard use, I don't need to be won over, as I would likely buy a CS knife someday, anyway.

It's also for those who would just like to try out Cold Steel. You are fine :D

Do not currently own any Cold Steel knives. The one I did have was given to a Marine before deployment.

Was born and raised in Milwaukee. Lived there for 45 years. Moved to Tennessee to get away from the rat race and snow. I have found that the South has some of the most gracious folks living here. I'd never move back up north, besides the pork steaks are the best round here.

You can bet that if I win this knife I'll give you an honest and thorough review of it.

Thanks

I'm more of a Spyderco guy, but I would love to try this out. THanks!

Live in Indiana, but I have family in Tenn and Georgia. I love southern cooking; its just about the greatest food you can eat in America. And I know this sounds cliche but they are some friendly people.

I would really like to try a CS Triad lock out! I won't ever buy a Cold Steel because they all their production from the US to Taiwan/China, but I would REALLY like to try one. I won't send money their way because right now I don't understand what the big deal is of the triad lock vs a traditional backlock. If I receive this generous give-away knife, I will definitely put it through some tough work. I have a BUNCH of farm stuff I can cut. Then I can find out for myself what the big deal about a tri-ad lock is. I also have never owned a Tanto blade -- won't buy one of those either but would really enjoy trying it (and trying to sharpen it). Thanks for the give-away.

I was raised in Arkansas but I went to college in Indiana for four years. Doing this made me conscious of what I missed most about the South, besides my family and friends of course. It's got to be either the FRIED foods (okra, catfish, chicken), the GREEN vegetables with southern cornbread (brussels, collard greens, boiled cabbage), or the great fishing/hunting. Sorry, I just couldn't choose one...

Hey, thanks! I don't have any cold steel knives and always kind of liked that looks of the Voyager series. I don't think I've had a tanto since the 90s. Should I happen to win I'd like it stock; I like to sharpen knives.

As for the South, Louisiana has some particular fine food. Cajun cooking is right up my alley.

Thanks again!
-Carson
