#15 GEC Electrician?

Wow, the knife looks even better in action! Can't wait for the spears, but now your video is making wonder if sheepfoot needs to be ordered too! Awesome colab Steve!

The sheepsfoot are going out faster maybe a three to one ratio for requests but its probably due to the spear not being available or maybe not. Maybe the sheepsfoot is the preferred blade in this case for most. I don't know. Its a toss up for me as I prefer the sheepsfoot but like the way the spear blade closes down and how it feels in the pocket although I can't complain about the ride of the sheepsfoot in my pocket now at all. Quite nice and very pocket friendly.

Let me know! Ready to go! D

Cool, Steve. BTW, Monday is a holiday. I think the Post Office is closed.

Oh well. I never know. I'm always made fun of by my neighbors cause they catch me checking for mail on Sundays. I quit wearing a watch when I retired from the dental biz. After years of micro managing time I guess now I just want to forget about it! Specially when I look in the mirror but we'll stay away from that subject! Thanks for telling me tho. I know now to stop telling people that!

Orders and comments on orders need to take place in Steve's forum.
Forum > Knife Maker's Discussion Forums > Hosted Knifemaker's Forums > STR's Backyard KnifeWorks

This thread needs to be just for talking about the knives.

I can't prevent that from happening so why not move it there? But Esav is this true? You have a pre-order thread in this very forum for other knives Frank! I have a membership allowing me to sell, which is another thread in this forum soliciting so what gives?

Frank's right. My fault, too. Talking about orders and money should in your hosted forum.

Okay fair enough. Hit me private with questions or visit my forum then cuz I don't want to address the questions incidentally here.

Hey,Steve, could you post a pic of the taper/bevel that you put on your screwdriver tip?

Only by the video at the present time. I'm not sure where my camera is. I found the video recorder earlier but my little Digital is missing and I don't know what I did with it. We're wondering if I left it in Memphis when we went there for the funeral. If I find it yes. Sorry man

That's just what I wanted to see. Thanks!

By the way. There is a stripper on the saw blade. The choil double duties. It has a taper to it and can function to strip if you wish to use it that way. I managed to make it to the Tulsa Arms show this weekend. It was mid day Sunday by the time I got there and some of the dealers were already packing up but I manged to actually meet and shake hands with Christine from over at Great Eastern Cutlery who was set up with Docs Knife Works out of Houston. It was nice to meet and Doc had a fabulous display of GEC knives. Just wonderful and his display woke me up about something I wanted to mention. Sue, I believe is her name, but Sue, over at Great Eastern C is doing some fantastic art work for the labels on the canisters they use to pack their knives. I suggested to Chris they show all that work off on their web site if it is not available as Docs's display proved to me the canisters by GEC used for their knives, long term, are going to be as collector worthy as the knives themselves! Do you guys know that the original matchbox Bat Mobile Box, not the car but the box, sold for 489 bucks on ebay!? I've seen one go for half that also.

So after seeing Doc's display and all those really cool labels, mine is the coolest of all by the way, even Chris said so :D so unless these are available somewhere I don't know about you guys need to help me push those forward for us. I would think some art enthusiasts would maybe buy knives they'd otherwise ignore if they see the neat can it comes in and the label cause some of those labels are cooler than the knives in the can! ;)

One thing puzzles me about this style of knife:
Hasn't America heard of Phillips or Posidrive screws? They're on almost all the electrical gear I work on - and often don't have a flat blade slot. So what looks like a lovely knife in all other respects (liking the gyprock saw, btw) is potentially limited tool for me (Refrigeration Technician if you're curious).
The other thing is many of the slotted screws I come across are 4mm or smaller - so while a 6.5mm or larger driver has quite a lot of use, a 4mm may be more useful. (Excuse me if my assumptions here are wrong, I confess that I haven't looked that closely at the spec's. )

Yeah its probably true as phillips is common but the way I see that its a quick zip trick for any of the types carrying this knife to modify the tip of any screw driver to work for the need and this tool is no different really. Its an excellent pry tool and for people that carry tools like pry bars which I also make and sell well, the knife is both a pry and a blade which was part of the appeal for me as a youth anyway. Same with the old fish knives. I used the old fish knife tools for all manner of other jobs as a kid always fiddling' with it. Its another gadget in the toy box. One of many for most men but this one for someone doing a lot of residential work would be a handy tool be you a plumber, contractor, electrician or even inspectors and the like can all find use for a convenient easily carried tool. Since getting mine I've used it to scrape up things, pick up the water meter lid to turn off the water briefly yesterday, put my new tag on my new truck with it at the tag office, unscrewed the phillips head screws holding our filter screen in for out home furnace central unit and screwed those back down (yep it fit but I did modify my tip to fit smaller screws just as I've done with 29 and 27 models in the past of this type folder.) I like a fine screwdriver personally. I like the knife tip to fit the dremmel foredom handpiece mandrels for drums and that kind of stuff so if I can't find the dang screwdriver cause the cat knocks it off the table or something I have a handy tool right there and so I tend to taper the tips on mine as a general rule no matter where I bought the thing. I have modified about all the screw tips from damage from use anyway as over time you ding up the ends or at least I do.. I also found they poke better for pushing through dry wall to start a hole if they are thinner at the end and more wedge like.
