#15 GEC Electrician?

Personally I'm looking forward to seeing your taper job and how it handles Phillips/other smaller screw heads. And as you said, using it as a general utility tool, scraping, prying, etc, is a bonus for me. I hate using a knife blade for scraping if I can avoid it, and I won't pry with a knife blade. The tool blade on this looks perfect for my needs in that regard. With the large pins on it, and the pins on the bolster, this looks like it'll handle prying very well. I won't do more than light prying jobs with it though, but I think it'll work well.

Looking forward to this knife Steve!

One thing that has become clear to me, that if I'm going to be working hard then I'm going to have a Leatherman-style full multitool of some sort on my belt. I can no longer argue that any other tool will be as useful.

But as much as I love my Wave, it is heavy and boring and has none of the cachet that a traditional knife has. So most of the time I carry a GEC Conductor, which is a beautiful cutting tool, attached to a Gerber Shard, which is a very useful prying tool. Because my #1 use is cutting, but a close #2 is prying. #3 is probably turning screws. #4 is sawin' stuff.

Based on all of the above, the GEC STR-EK is a dream come true. It will handle the vast majority of my needs, while also fulfilling that weird spot in me that loves what a traditional pattern provides. Hell, I even love the look and feel of micarta after it's been roughed up with 220, so that's one more benefit. I'm super excited for this pattern.... its a grail knife I didn't even know I wanted until Steve brought it out :D

I look forward to the first impressions of what people feel after using it. Way back when, probably about when mini or multi tools came out I bought one of the original Leatherman's and used it for a while. Gave it to a buddy of mine and a guy I worked with and years later he still had that thing. When I gave it to him it was so stiff, so God awful I couldn't stand it. When I wanted one blade I got all of them and it irritated me. When he pulled it out years later I barely recognized it. I even asked what he had there. And he says well that should look familiar! That is that tool you gave me a few years ago! I looked at that thing and you know it was broke in about like a good well worn slippie from years of pocket wear. An almost melted look that gave it a character. I found myself regretting letting that go that day after seeing it broke in good.. Never got another of the original Leatherman tools but the Swiss Tool came along and I found I rather took to that after the Leatherman. I've bought three of the Swiss Tools now and each different. The original one opens wider for the pliers. The pliers are where Leatherman beats the Swist Tool and the Wave has a great Plier. I have one of them too.

I think I have some of everything. You have or seen the old Sog Tool Clip? I have some of them too and my favorite is the mini Bear Jaw. I'm looking for another one if anyone has one or sees one somewheres as they are getting scarce but that is for some other forum. I carry a Mini Bear Jaw all the time. The little pliers are like little tweezers man! Great for splinters and picking up screws and the like!

Off topic: I'm not sure if you remember, Steve, but I gifted you a pair of the Mini Bear Jaws when you first started hanging around the forums several years ago. It's cool that you still like and use the same model tool.

Mine STREK arrived today. I'm fortunate enough to live in OK, so post was fast.
1. GREAT label on the tube.
2. Fit and finish is super -typical GEC.
3. The blade is super sharp right out of the tube.
4. The driver works great on the switch/outlet covers in my home.
5. The OD micarta looks great and is plenty grippy.
This knife is going to be a real work horse. I'm in the middle of doing a remodel of our garage apartment, so mine is going to earn its keep!

I am so glad you reminded me of who gave me those. Those mini jaws are on my belt loop as I type as they've been since you kindly replaced them for me. I wish you had reminded me of that before hand. We'll deal with that later. Was wondering how long before someone would give it the nick name my wife gave it when she named it. I asked her what she wanted to call ours and she said just like you spelled it, STREK. She always does that including my initials in anything. She named my BUSSTR folder as well.

You forgot the best part but I'll forgive you as you probably have not had time to carry it yet. You'll figure it out.;)

Todd, please post some photos when you get the chance. I'm really interested in seeing some more of this knife.

Interesting pics. I forgot to ask, were you able to modify mine before sending it out? I replied to your email where you asked me about it but I didn't see the email to get back to you until the day you were going to mail them so I might have been too late. If not that's quite alright, just curious:)

Any permissions granted or requests were done yes. Not sure if I replied to you or not my friend. Sometimes I think I do and then find a draft cause I got side tracked on some honey do.

The pics above are GEC provided pictures and factory tips. The 'adjusted' running change to them. They still had the spears by the time Chris caught them and the remaining sheepsfoot are inbound to GEC to do that same thing to in the above pics. This because in random selection some were fatter than others at the tip.

What happened was this. At the last test fire so to speak when the knife was being built and run through some of the paces the screw driver was slapping the lanyard tube when closing it. The forward placement of the kick due to the design for the stripper/choil feature I insisted on was the culprit and it lay right in there when closed but it slapped first. We didn't like it. So the solution other than take the choil out was to shorten it. The taper was fine til then but they got out the door shortened and not re-tapered so some didn't fit household outlet screws to remove a simple cover to get to the wires. This disappointed me. I voiced that and they are correcting it. I like the screw driver on this to work for anything from a license plate screw down to fitting the screw for a 1/2" drum sander mandrel for your handpiece personally. I'm not sure it will fit the mandrel with this one as I have not seen other than the pictures above until I get the adjusted product back and the spears probably all together.

Wow, that looks really nice. I'm giving my dad one for his birthday. He's an electrician and retiring soon. I've mentions this before except I planned it as as a Christmas gift. Well the timing was perfect so he gets and awesome birthday gift instead. I get a pic of him and post it with his impressions. This is a guy who carried either a TL-29 or a Barlow in his tool pouch for years. Can't wait to see his face when he opens this beauty.

Off topic but
I'm curious about the little rug under it? Thats a little Pendelton matt! I sleep under a Pendelton wool blanket all winter. Where did you get that?

The pics are making me look forward to mine even more. Being in Canada and having mine go through Customs means I'm likely to have a bit of a longer wiat that you guys, so the pics are satisfying yet killing me at the same time:)

I love Pendleton, too! It's a coaster. I keep it on my desk at work. I bought it at an Indian art gallery, but I bet you can find them on the big auction sight or even direct from Pendleton. If you can't locate any let me know.

I received mine today and the f&f on it is exceptional, I already used it to cut and strip some wire, and used the screwdriver to open a drive cabinet. It's really handy to not have to run back to my tool bag for a quick job. Thanks Steve!

The spear point version should be great. I need to see if I can scrounge up the dosh for one of these too... between you and Charlie, my bank account is very sad.

But I am very happy.
