(Is the blade etched, or stamped?)

Congratulations, Steve-- this looks fantastic.

AHHHH I can't wait!! What great news today.

Okay, I know I said I'm not sure how much use I'd realistically get out of the flathead screwdriver, but maybe I could use one of these after all :D And if the screwdriver tip isn't too wide maybe it can get more use on Phillips heads. Or maybe I can just stop justifying and say #15 BOYS KNIFE GREEN MICARTA LANYARD HOLE TL29 SHEEPSFOOT WITH A SAW (and a thing that tells time in the stock)! Erm, sorry for the yelling.

Sorry for the double posting like this but I'm suddenly super excited about this knife. I'm getting one for sure in the green micarta with a sheepsfoot. I realize that between the occasional screw and a ALOT of scraping with the back of a blade, along with poking and jabbing things I could actually get more use out of this thing than I initially realized. Just the scrapping and poking alone, nevermind screws, would be worth it so I don't have to use the back of a knife blade anymore (not fond of using my blades for non-cutting tasks when I can avoid it). And it's just too sweet of a knife. Yeah, sign me up. Maybe a second, a spearpoint later on down the road.

Wow! These are looking great! Much nicer than I had anticipated. I love the hollow rivet!

What's the deal with the raised/exposed pin in the bolsters? It definitely adds to the aesthetics of this piece, and makes it look more 'mechanical'. I like it.

See here (and previous). I believe this is the "domed pin" Steve refers to, included to provide more strength at a pivot that will potentially be subjected to more torque due to the screwdriver.

Thanks ~P! I missed that. My bad for not reading more closely.

No problem! It's fascinating how these small details work together to bring something new (and to be seen anew ;)) on this #15 frame. Plus, I love when an interesting visual is a direct result of function, as with these domed pins.

That saw/screwdriver blade looks like an accident waiting to happen to me.

I have to say I hadn't thought of that, but then if there was an accidental closure during use I'm not sure the saw would make the snapping closed any worse than the normal scraper blade of a regular TL29. I'd think the standard screwdriver blade and this saw blade would both do equal damage in that event. Maybe I'm wrong on that though, I don't know.

You have a nasty saw accident as a youth or somethin' Jack!? Maybe we should have locked the main blade for you too I guess!

I like the look of the sheepsfoot version, unfortunately the linerlock means an illegal uk carry so I won't be getting one. None-the-less, great job STR!
:)

I'm not referring to the blade accidentally closing, but rather the saw causing injury while the screwdriver is in use. How many times have you slipped while using a screwdriver? It's very easy to do in my experience. This saw/screwdriver blade reminds me of the German Army Knife/Victorinox Safari/Victorinox-made Mauser Officers Knife, all of which have a saw blade with a combination tool and screwdriver on the end. For safety reasons, the saw comes with a removable guard. I carried a Mauser for ten years, and I'm very glad the guard was provided.

(Do I have to go and sit at the 'Mad Uncle' table with Pete now? ;) )

Minor concern IMO. While I have no doubt some will have an accident, and some may take off the back tooth or teeth more or wipe the saw but there are already knives of this type out that I modified that I know work. In fact I look at it from the stand point of my own ability Jack. I am not an electrician but I wired my house and shop. I'm not a plumber but I was a plumbers grunt for six years and can do any of that, and while not a contractor I built my hunting cabin from the ground up. So looking at this knife as I see it I could make a living with it as a residential electrician. I installed recessed lighting with one I modified years ago and then sold and it wasn't even anything but a jimmied up butcher job saw I did with a file! Bill made the saw a bit more agressive on it at the end than I had it initially. When I saw it I liked it but my fear was it was too much but he and the electricians they had involved feel it needed to be bigger teeth to keep from gumming up. Recalling my own jimmy jobs it was a problem with that so I had to agree. I just hope it cuts instead of tears but we'll know soon enough. I've been putting off a job in my back room involving piecing in some sheet rock and installing a new electrical box so I will be getting to use mine real soon. In fact my wife is planning to hold it over me because once the knives arrive I won't be able to use that to put it off any more!:D

I wasn't wishing to pour scorn on your project STR, it's a nice-looking knife, and I'm sure it's well built

The saw-blade guard on the knives I mentioned is just a small piece of steel, which slips around the teeth when the saw isn't being used. I imagine it would be very easy and cheap to manufacture. But if you don't think it's a concern, fair enough.

Its fine man. I just think its apples and oranges. They just arrived. You'll see here shortly cause I made a video. You'll have to excuse my language in a few spots in my reactions so consider this advance warning! S Its uploading now.

Look forward to seeing the video

And here you go guys. Now I could sell these, probably a lot of them this weekend by simply tagging along with a buddy and sharing his booth for half the fee to the Tulsa show but you guys that ordered are safe. Everyone is getting laid out to contact as I type and my wife and I are busy picking out all the sheepsfoot blade requests since that is all we have currently. I am quite pleased all around. If there is one area I could be critical on it is the lack of a taper on the screw driver which I did request. I don't know if it is an oversight or just how they do them but its a minor issue. It does fit most of the new outlet covers in my house even still but with that said I did already modify my own with a further taper to better please me personally on that part. Otherwise I could not be any happier with what GEC has produced for me. We have a winner in my opinion!
