Just read this on Yahoo.

Good reason to always carry a knife.

If attacked by one of these snakes what knife would you want to have with you to use.
(You can not say you would keep the snake or let it go, it has to be killed with a knife to keep Florida free)

I myself would like a Ka-Bar MKI.

These things are pure muscle and very hard to cut, think long and hard as I do not believe my choise is best.

Poor Python :(

My girlfriend keeps three of them handy, they're small enough for my spyderco as of now..

When you answer try to remember that the 18 foot snake is wraped around one leg, it has one arm and is around your neck. You only have one free hand to get away.

I am almost to say a chicken plant knife. Almost as pointy as an icepick and sharp as a razor.

I don't think it would actually take that much of a knife. All you have to do is sever the spinal cord, and everything belowthat point goes limp. You then just keep working your way up to the head. Still, good on him for having the knife available, probably even better than a handgun.

I'm glad he got the python. They are destroying the ecosystem in Florida.

It probably did not take that much knife, but I would be losing my bodily functions with that big snake wrapped around my leg. It sounds like the man was experienced in handling large constrictors.

I'd have used a Spyderco Southfork, and made me a custom sheath, matching boots, belt, hatband, pants, and gun holsters.

I wood want a Spyderco assist...no point to stab myself with, serrated, and the thumb hole makes it easy (er) to open when in a panic.

Any sharp knife works. I just start gutting them alive, all the pressure they are squeezing you with is now used to help push his insides out of his body.

I think the fine tip and four inches of razor sharp CPM M4 from my Spyderco Military would be more than enough to make minced snake out of that guy. Wouldn't want to be chopping a snake that is wrapped around a limb, I'd rather treat it like I was more of a surgeon.

Though in reality I'd think my sneakers and ability to run would come more in handy than my pocket knife. I would also hope the smell of urine scares it away, because I would have undoubtedly wet myself.

Jason Leon was not hunting pythons but, while driving late at night recently in southeast Miami-Dade County, he and a friend spotted about 3 feet of snake protruding from the brush.

Leon applied the brakes, climbed out of the car, grabbed the visible portion of the snake, and began hauling it onto the road.

The giant constrictor responded by trying to wrap its body around one of Leon’s legs, but he was able to dispatch the reptile with a knife.

That's pretty metal of him. This man has proven himself some kind of great warrior; getting out of his car specifically so he can do battle with a giant reptile on the side of the road.

I think I'd be quite comfortable with a Spyderco Military as well. It has the correct blade length and will slice right through that snake in no time.

Spyderco Southfork looks good for the job
Not sure if I'd win though :p

Good! I'm glad he got it and not the other way around! They don't belong here and pose a major threat to everything at that size. I would never hurt one of our native species of snakes, But I ran one over on Krome ave and will do it again if I have the chance.

If I had to use a knife it would be my Rodent 9 or machete. I would prefer a shotgun though. I think they can strike at a distance of 1/3 their length. So an 18 foot snake has a 6 foot reach!
