18 ft python, what knife would you use.

I want to say I'd use my Cold Steel Kuhkri machete, but wrestling a python might present a challenge getting in a good swing.
So I'd go with something that could chop and stab, but not too long and clumsy.
It probably might not be the best blade for the job, but the one I'd probably have on me would be my Becker BK-2.
I thing it would be plenty of knife to get the job done, then I could baton some firewood and cook it up.:D

I'd have used a Spyderco Southfork, and made me a custom sheath, matching boots, belt, hatband, pants, and gun holsters.

Probably this, and I have a good recipe for pulled BBQ snake, though I've never tried python before.

If it was actually grabbing me? Something like a Buck 119 would be sometime I'd want to have with me. Now, if I was just traipsing through the jungle and thought I might be confronted by one, assuming a firearm isn't an option I'd want a machete of some sort.

I'd definitely use a machete of at least 18" sharpened to a toothy edge.

Case Copperhead. :)
EDIT : For an 18 1/2 footer or longer I'd probably go with a machete or a khuk or a big honkin' bowie.
I also wonder if you could get your hands behind it's head and strangle it to death before it crushed you ?

Naturally I would love to have my Busse Gladius on hand, but unfortunately its not of normal EDC size. I always have my large sebenza on me, so thats more than likely what would be the snakes demise...!!!

Snake skin is thin and the flesh is muscle, it doesn't take a long knife to slice through behind the head, it only needs to be sharp.

Pythons have curved teeth angled toward their throat. The harder you pull the better grip they get (unless you can rip through your own flesh). You can grab them by the top of the nose and peel back their jaw, but if the snake is too big or too slippery from your blood cutting off the head is your best bet.

Any small knife will work, but I'd like something with a serrated blade. I choose my Gerber Silver Trident Double Serration. I carried this knife in the jungle for that reason. The guy was very brave or stupid, sometimes it's a very fine line. :D

Unlikely, but I guess it could be possible if he had you in an air choke i.e around the lungs. If it was a blood choke i.e around the neck you'll be unconscious in as little as 8 to 13 seconds. Not a place I'd like to be in either instance!

Busse nuclear Aragon Assault. One of the versions with the dagger blade. Make a good stabbing weapon in closr where you have no room to chop.

Busse Bantoku if I had room to swing. I can tell you though, I'm not jumping out of my car to grab a python by the tail!

Tell me how you going to cut through this:

Btw, it's very tame. You can sleep beside him and he won't touch you at all...unless you are a live stock chicken.

Whatever you use, you better start cutting. As of last year, they estimated the Burmese python population in Florida to be over one million animals. Since the females lay clutches of up to 80 eggs, stay with the eggs to protect them until hatching, and have no natural enemies in this part of the world, a population explosion is in the works!
But then Florida also has a growing population of Nile monitor lizards that can reach six feet in length and eats anything they can catch, but have a fondness for python eggs.. Good luck!

Man, a 18 foot Python eh.....ummm.....in that case, I'd use something.....20 FEET LONG! (or longer).

Smatchet of course.:D
Or this if the smatchet wasn't available.

Kudos to him for getting a monster out of the eco system. I am itching to try my luck at the pythons down south. If I was like him and just happened to have a knife on me when I came across that bad boy it would likely be my Southern Grinds, which would be plenty of knife to get the job done. If I had my preferences I would take my Muela Rhino. A good grippy handle and some razor sharp Sandvik. Game over.
