1911 vs Glock

If there are that many of "them" you are in trouble anyway and probably should have had a tank.

"If your not shooting you should be loading. If your not loading you should be moving. If your not moving someone is going to cut your head off and put it on a stick." *- Clint smith -thunder ranch*

I love this quote!

I totally agree.

I have been a customized 1911 guy for a long time, BUT I switched to the dark side to get this current Glock setup: Gen4 G17 with Trijicon RMR co-witnessed with iron sights. Crappy pics of a game-changing weapon; my carry gun:

(The white stuff is flour!)

Those look cool, but I certainly wouldn't want them on an edc

I am not saying that everyone is going to be like me. I only get to practice so much. I usually am able to shoot once a week during nice conditions and less that that when it turns bad. I do practice my draw stroke, but I don't think that is enough for me to remember to always take the safety off in high stress situations.

I just like how the glock is very simple and when I pull the trigger it is going to go bang(as long as their is a round in the chamber.

It does take time to develop the relex motor skills if you switch to something different.

Glocks aren't for everyone, but I think its safe to say that by the sheer numbers of them in service, they are very reliable. I trust my life and my families lives to one.
You can't go wrong with the Glock or 1911, as long as the 1911 is a quality piece, and hasn't been mucked with by some backyard gunsmith .
Thats where it helps to know how to work on them

Everyone is different, and real/perceived needs are different, but the times have changed and red dots have now become incredibly rugged. This thing is amazingly sturdy.

It does get the flour wiped off daily, however!

I have never liked sweating on my 1911's and I tent to crawl around and climb things randomly (emergency car repair for friends, climbing to open second story windows when they lock their keys in the house, hooking up a strap to pull people out of snow/ditch) I only appendix carry.

My Kimber ultra CDP II has taken a beating nicks in the frame and dents/lines in the smooth thin wood grips. I found myself not carrying as often because of that feeling I'd get when heard it hit something hard and sharp.

I still have 3 1911's and always will, carry, full sized and custom full sized model 80 gold cup that takes a double stack mag 15+1!

But I recently made the switch....

Has a few dollars worth of mods but I don't seem to mind when I take it out and it's wet with condensation or sweat or even when it hits something in the shop at work.

I have a Glock 21 and just bought a baby glock 26. I have never been happier with both. Just outstanding pistols, and unbeatable for their reliability.

I have never owned a 1911, but I would never sell my Glocks.

These are the only two pistols I own and I am content.

The only two pistols I own are a Springfield 1911 and a Glock 22  While the 1911 has been much more accurate for me, but it has been more finicky than my Glock. Every once in a while, I will have trouble with clips or FTFs in the Springer; nothing too complicated to work out myself. The Glock will almost always go bang when you pull the trigger...but there is nothing like the feel of a well tuned 1911  Possibly THE American classic.

I love my Ed Brown, Baer TRS, wilson Sentinel in 45 and an old kimber. I also have an STI in 9mm that is an absolute blast to shoot. 1911's are great guns... everyone should have at least one of them.

I'm also a big fan of the combat tupperware. I think I have 5 glocks. Another one to consider is the Kahr. The CW45 finds itself on my hip quite a lot these days, and the PM9 is a great carry gun when the weather gets up into the 100's and light clothing is worn. It disappears under the shirt tail of a t-shirt.

As far as the difference between the two... I can say with certainty that my 1911's are in the 1-2" accuracy range at 25 yards. The glocks are within the 3-4" range at the same distance. For this reason I find the 1911's a bit more fun to plink with. With a great trigger a 1911 is almost like shooting a rifle.

I really like them both. All of my guns are 100% reliable. Most of the real gun nuts out there are 1911 guys... that says something.

Some porn for your viewing pleasure....

Now that's what I'm talking about!

I have both. They obviously are totally different in many ways. A stock 1911 is most likely similar in accuracy. A modified 1911 can be more accurate, but my experience is that it take me practice to stay sharp with the 1911. The grip and the trigger of a tuned 1911 is hard to beat, but like I said if your grabbing one from your night stand a glock is such a natural pointer for me. This is one of those subjects that can be debated for days and this is my short version.

That's me ... except, the 1911 has become the 'natural pointer' for me. Perhaps due to many decades of use.

If you really want to know, either borrow or rent a 1911 and see what it's like for you.

Whatever you should choose, just be good with it! This lady will always stick to the 1911, a pistol I learned to shoot a very long time ago and have confidence in. Besides, how do you put Busse grips on a Glock?

Just kidding, really! Try them, get the one that fits you, then PRACTICE!

That's just so damn sexy I had to quote it just to post that pic again....

WOW!

Robin,

You frequently make my heart go pitty-pat--which is a good thing for an old man. How can you be so feminine and yet so wonderfully knowledgeable and competent in venues overstocked with men?

Beautiful, exceptional, elegantly functional gear.

It's truly a gratifying thing to know women like you are out there in the world--well, at least one. A very special one.

Thanks for posting,
Will

I decided to go with a 1911 as my first handgun. Didn’t go for $4,5K Wilson Super Grade, but didn’t buy a cheap one either:

The best trigger in business. Here is how I managed with it at about 98 yards (just for the hell of it), 10 shots:
