I've been browsing at several knives and want to order a few , but before I do I wanted to hear some feedback. Service? Speedy delivery?

I'm sure they'll pop this over to GB&U, and you can do a search there as well. My experience was smooth, great value, and fast.

I have bought a few knives from 1SKS without any problems. They do a great job of taking care of their customers. The other thing is you support Bladeforums when buying from 1SKS.

Good service and while you are at it, I'd recommend getting one of their knife bags, very handy for storage and transport!

I have nothing but great things to say about the service that I got from 1SKS. Spark was very helpful. You can't go wrong with these guys.

While I have nothing particularly bad to say about 1sks.com - I will say that there are other companies out there that have more experience and better service than 1sks.com!

There are two things that I look for in an online company: (1) Are they a sticks and bricks company with a history? and (2) Do they have good customer service?

IMHO, the best company out there right now(and sorry BladeForums, I know you're attached to 1sks.com) is eKnifeWorks.com - it's Smoky Mountain Knife Work's new web venture. SMKW has been in the business about 20 years and always has a great selection - I've been ordering from their catalog for years, so I know they "really" exist.

Second (and unlike 1sks.com), eKnifeWorks.com offers a 90-day Satisfaction Gaurantee - no questions asked. 1sks.com doesn't come close - I think their like 7 to 10 days for a full refund, and after that you have to take store credit. Not good enough. Also, I don't have to worry about hanging onto a receipt or the original packaging with eKnifeWorks.com - as long as I get it back to them in 90 days - I get a refund.

Anyway, I've rambled enough - but I just wanted to jump in and suggest an alternative - try http://www.eknifeworks.com I think you'll like it!

Gee, I always love to see some FNG register and his FIRST post is to spout off his expert opinion on why you should buy from somebody else. Do you work for SMKW ? Sounds like it to me. Well, regardless of what Jax implies (no matter how subtle he tries to be) rest assured that 1sks does "exist" and can be trusted.

1stopknife has great service with no problems for me.Smokey Mountain has been a problem as they never seem to have the specials in stock. After calling to place an order within 1 day after getting catalog they always say they have been sold out for 2weeks! Sounds fishy to me.

Hmmmmm, well, let's see... I'll try to address this in points.

1. Yes, we are "brick and mortar" - we have an actual warehouse, we have actual people working for us, we're not fly by night. If people live in Jacksonville, they are welcome to stop by and check us out.

2. While we haven't been open for 20 years, we have made huge strides in the 1 year we've now been open.

3.[Edited out - didn't need to be said]

4. We're providing BladeForums.com. Heck, 1SKS came into existance to keep BladeForums open, not vice versa. Not many other companies out there doing anything like this, especially considering how "small fry" we are.

5. We don't charge credit cards as soon as the order is placed. We also allow changes to be made to orders, provided we haven't sent them out.

6. We charge flat rates for shipping, not on how much you spend.

7. We ship UPS, not Priority or Express mail. So, when the order ships, you can track your package. It also means our prices can be lower because when something get's lost, we can be reimbursed in 2 weeks, not 6 months. That means you get better service overall.

8. Our prices seem to be about the same or lower - I looked at a couple items and we're about average with them when we're not lower. Photon's, CRKT, Emerson, etc, we beat their prices. I guess we can do that because we don't have a paper catalog to send out every month.

9. We provide more information on the products than they do. If I've had a chance to put a picture up, you also get to see the knife in more detail.

Look, I'm happy you like SmokeyMountain. You don't have to buy from us, it's your money.

But, please accept reality - we haven't been open 20 years. We don't have hundreds of employees. We don't have paper catalogs, or high prices. We're just trying to make a bunch of knife nuts happy. We do that by providing good prices, decent service, lots of information on our website, and if that isn't good enough, we provide BladeForums.com

I guess when I can afford to hire graphic artists, catalog designers, a custom web design team, 30 more sales staff, and have a few million dollars backing me, I can do what SmokeyMountain does. We too will probably have 9 differant departments, and all the staff that goes with it. Until then, I guess I'll just have to do the best I can with what I've got, if that's ok with you?

For three guys in a warehouse, I think we do a pretty damn good job. Heck, I'm happy we're even in the same league as SmokeyMountain, so I'll take that as a compliment.

Have a nice day

Well, I checked out eknifeworks.com's site and was pretty disappointed.

No Microtech

Some zytel and stainless Spyderco's (7 total)

Their 'customs' seemed to be all of the United Cultery Gil Hibben variety

Lots of Smith and Wesson though...

Did not even bother to bookmark it.

Oh wait, now I get it, according to their website, SmokeyMountain is going to open up their own discussion forums! Well, this ought to be interesting...

Welcome to Bladeforums, Jax.

I didn't expect Jax's post to get so much comment ... well, it probably wouldn't have if it had been posted in a thread about Smokey Mountain....

If you click on "search" at the top of your screen you can find other people's experiences with Smokey Mountain, and with 1SKS, and with most online and paper catalog dealers. It's a good idea to run a quick search on any dealer you're considering doing business with.

I'd like to remind everybody buying from dealers who have banner ads at Bladeforums helps to support the forums, too, though less directly.

While I haven't dealt with SMKW or 1SKS, I'm not at all impressed by SMKW's selection. No MicroTech, no REKAT, 3 Emersons, 7 Spydercos (most on special and "temporarily out of stock")...I couldn't find any BK&T, though they do carry Camillus. I guess I'd do business with them if they had a knife I wanted in stock at a really great price, but frankly with such a limited selection I don't think I'd spend enough time looking at their site to find it.

Maybe you should consider, if you plan on sticking around here at BFC, what Spark and Couger have stated above.

Spark, et al:

Thanks for the hearty welcome to Blade Forums.

A couple of weeks ago, a friend told me I could have a little fun with the folks on this BB. After a week of reading, I figured, what the hell - I'll post something. I guess I misunderstood the rules - I thought this was a place to give opinions - I guess I was wrong.

When I logged on to check things out, let's just say I didn't realize I was going to end up being part of "Slamfest 2001" - and to beat all - get slammed by the "boardmaster."

Again, Spark - thanks for opening up my eyes to how BF really works.

Sincerely,

Jack "Yand" Iandowski

Jax Yand,

First I would like to welcome you to BFC officially from me, the owner.

What you have experienced here is simply a response to your post. So please allow me to explain why you were "slammed".

But before I do let me tell you that I have been in business since 1991 and I am a member of the BBB and I was actually a supplier to SMKW and their partner companies United Cutlery and Blue Ridge knives. So since SMKW actually bought from us I would think that you could too
wink.gif

Now what happened here is simply this. A person asked about 1SKS and you came out of know where with your first ever post and tried to switch them to SMKW. Let me break down your post here.
While I have nothing particularly bad to say about 1sks.com - I will say that there are other companies out there that have more experience and better service than 1sks.com!

I think your statement above is WAY off base. I also will make you this challenge. Call SMKW and ask about virtually any knife you want. Then call us and do the same. See who has more experience in that arena. Also you can not really comment on any other experience if you have no experience with us to draw upon especially to say they have better service, make sense?

There are two things that I look for in an online company: (1) Are they a sticks and bricks company with a history? and (2) Do they have good customer service?
In question #1, yes we are a brink and mortar company. Meaning we do have a physical location and you can drop by and see us.
In question #2, yes I believe we have good customer service. We are not perfect, but neither is SMKW.

This is what pissed Spark off and most of the others in here and myself to a degree. First SMKW does not have a great selection. They have a decent selection at best and I will put my selection up against theirs any day. In fact a lot of what they carry is pure CRAP. Yes they do have some name brands but the selection is spotty at best and they do not carry anywhere near the SKU's we do. And yes we "REALLY" exist. Do your homework before you make statements questioning the very existence of a company.

Second (and unlike 1sks.com), eKnifeWorks.com offers a 90-day Satisfaction Gaurantee - no questions asked. 1sks.com doesn't come close - I think their like 7 to 10 days for a full refund, and after that you have to take store credit. We are not sticklers about the original receipt but we do like to at least know what the original order number is. This help us track things down. SMKW has us beat on the 90 return policy. Maybe we can look at that down the road but I think most people will be able to figure out if they like a knife within 7 or so days. Also who is going to hang on to a knife for 90 days, never use it only to send it back after that long? Not many but I guess you got me there.

And if you work for SMKW, Tell Kevin and the gang I said hi

BTW,

If you look above only one poster (other than you) has less than 300 posts. People come here looking for answers to their questions, not irrelevancy. You are entitled to your opinion but opinion should be based on personal experience, don't ya think?

Also you will have a lot of fun on this BB but if your only intention is to point people away from the very sources that make this place run, then you may not be welcome and you WILL be viewed as a troll.

Have fun, stick around and learn some basic netiquette.
