1st Benchmade DISASTER

It is definitely THE knife for a lot of us!! I have 5 of them......I have 3 sons that like the model also!! So they 'borrow' mine!!

I was worried after following this thread. Really wanted this to be "THE" knife for me.

Stuff happens. Your knife seems like it was a lemon. I wouldn't give up on Benchmade because they did try to fix their mistakes. Many companies wouldn't. Maybe try a different model. Good luck though.

+1 to this. I primarily like big knives, but the 940 is like a little big knife, love the 1:1 blade/handle ratio. In my opinion, when you get a good one, it's the best EDC folder on the planet.

Got my crooked river in today. And WOW! This is what a benchmade should be! Came perfectly centered and no side play. Granted it's not a free dropping blade yet. No uneven grinds. I'll post pics later! My 940 should also be coming in today.

Well.....it would be "the" knife for me if it had a black blade....... Really liking the look ofthe black more than the satin. Thrilled otherwise

Got my benchmade back, blade is uncentered but blade play is gone. Didn't replace the blade. Here is some pic of the centering on the crooked river, pm2, endura 4, and benchmade 940

Is there a "situation" with BM that potential buyers should be aware of?
I bought one to date, and it's OK. Nothing special...

I just read so many bad experiences with them, and quality control. How hard is it to assemble 8 or less parts?

Well, when a person has a "smart phone" in one hand and a cigarette in the other hand and some illegal (or ~legal substance in-between) . . . it's more challenging than . . . well you kind of have to give them credit for being bothered enough to attempt it at all. I wouldn't want to work under those "conditions".

PS: to be fair that has nothing to do with Benchmade it is just the state of affairs I see everyday in the American work place.

working for a living is too hard.:) read an article about a study done yesterday or so on cnbc about how unreasonable and hostile and threatening the work environment is. so theres your problem at benchmade and everywhere else, etc. working for a living and taking pride in ones work is unfair and threatening/hostile for the kids today.

In all fairness I have worked for myself for more than 30 years.
The ONE constant issue I face is finding quality help. I guess you fellas make a fair point.

The only solution I have ever found is to only take on what I can handle myself.

Perhaps the desire to be part of the Capitalism machine is more powerful than the desire to offer a QUALITY product. Not directly knocking people that I know nothing about (BM owner(s)) but maybe some deep thinking is needed there to salvage the name they struggled to make.

Higher prices are not the answer. Less and better employees maybe? Fewer knives of better quality?
Hopefully.

Yah I've heard that line before from employers . . . then they go out and hire work release and chase their good employees away with a stick id est unreasonable and hostile and threatening behavior.

When I was a kid (20ish) I worked for a guy that DID hire random help from the local "Job Training Center".
They were indeed new releases, rehab out patient, and basically the most un-skilled of the un-skilled pool.
I don't mean to offend anyone that has had a difficult time in life but I do not remember one out of dozens of hires (over the few years that I was there) that lasted more than a few weeks.

Perhaps hard work, and sticking with ANYTHING is not for everyone.
All I know is... at 58, I am Damn tired.
Now I'm starting a second business so I can get out of the first!

Benchmade knives... ALMOST perfect designs (why oh why no hollow grind on the Crooked River, why double g10 handles on the Vicar, why so obvious clips in general?!?), and some bitter lemons sometimes, when the QC guys are AWOL.
Still, I won't call them disaster, but... slightly disappointing.
