Hi Fellows!

I just realized, that I have 2,000 posts in this wonderful forum. So, now it´s really time for a GA.

It´s a great pleasure being here in this forum with so many great guys (and gals). The generosity in this place is outstanding. So I want to give something back. We had GAs about using knives, pics of our own and so on...

So I thought about getting a GA where you can post your hobbies, whatever they are. I´m sure, there will be knives included, because we wouldn´t be here if it wouldn´t be like that. Pictures are welcome, for sure. But they are not required.

GA rules:
- Open to everyone (being a regular poster in this subforum)
- Doesn´t matter if you are a paid member or not
- Shipped to every place all over the world
- You can post as often as you want
- Winners will be chosen at a random number generator (post number will be the winning)

But what can you win? I thought about giving something, that I made with my own hands. As some kind of showing the value this subforum gave to me. The knowlegde that had been shared and the nice discussions. And your patience with my stupid questions (and missing english-language-skills).

Some time ago, I modified some Opinels. So this would be the win. It´s not that much money invested, but they are modified by my own hands. With a saw, file, lot of sandpaper and a lot of spare time ;)

Here are some in-hand-pics

I didn´t paint the handles. Everyone has his/her favorite taste in that way. This is a work that can be done within ten minutes :)

I´ll start with my hobbies...

the big things first (working on my building lot, restoring old tools and working in the woods)

IMG_1783.jpg

the small things (pipes, some instruments and knives, knives, knives, knives ;) )

IMG_1785.jpg

I´m looking forward seeing some of your hobbies here... :)

Kind regards
Andi

Trying to get my firefighter career going I've been really busy working three jobs attempting to get experience. With a recent exposure to EDC I haven't been able to stop scouring the Internet for goodies to buy. My hobbies as of late have been sitting on my phone during downtime and trying not to buy everything in sight. Knives, pens, watches, multitools, lights, everything! I dont have many (any) artistic abilities so making things is out of the question. I'm sure one day I'll have a hobby other than collecting things but since I've just gotten into the game I don't believe that will be anytime soon. :)

Thanks for the awesome give-away, very generous of you. I too have a passion for modifying Opinels so don't consider this a submission, give it to some other lucky forumite.

Headphones, audio equipment, high-end audio files, and music in general is my major hobby after knives of course.

Thanks for the chance, Andi!

Besides collecting knives I love collecting pens, power/hand tools, and landscaping. During High school zi worked with my best friend for a landscaping company. We had the time of our lives. Now I like making my lot as nice possible, be it outdoors or indoors.
I'll get some pictures up later if I have the time.

Thank you guys! Nice bunch of hobbies we have still here.

Duane - your hobby is just WOW. I think I would have never the courage jumping out of an aeroplane (volunteerly).

Kind regards
Andi

Always wanted to try an opinel, thanks for the chance my friend. My first hobby, more then anything else is my 3 little girls. I try to spend as much time teaching them all the fun things I can. Of course they would say I am too strict and the like but well they gotta be taught some manners and respect from someone. I would say that most of that ties in with the outdoors, tools, and especially knives. Ill try to find some good pics to share. Ill get into some of my other hobbys later. Great idea for a GAW Andi

Thanks Andi!

Maybe I am drawn to traditional knives because I enjoy the fine craftsmanship of older products. I write everyday with fountain pens, partly because they are so much easier to write with than ballpoints or roller balls. But there is also part of me that really enjoys using old pens. The routine of filling and cleaning helps keep a good rhythm to my life.

Here are three Parker Duofold Junior pens I have enjoyed. I recently sold the middle one, but still have an enjoy the other two. From left to right their dates of manufacture are 1928, 1931, 1926.

Do you land on your hands? I mean, they help, right?

(Tremendous pictures!)

Great giveaway, Andi! I love the chance to win something you've worked on and customized yourself.

I think my primary interests (pastimes?) have made their way into my pictures and posts as well-- knives, board games, guitars, hiking, owls. If nothing else, I'm good at playing. ;) You can glimpse some crossover in themes in the pictures below.

Hmmmm, I seem to be forgetting something. What could it be?

Ah, yes: in the last year we've hosted around 30 foster kitten babies, loving them up and preparing them for adoption. You may have seen a picture here and there. ;)

Awesome GAW! I already have a plethora of opinels so please choose someone else if my number comes up.

I Like to go scuba diving, now while I don't have any pictures of me actually doing it, I do have a few from my phone of the amazing view the pacific offers.

I have always had more hobbies than I could afford to run at the same time, but my longest running hobby besides knives and shooting is my affair with radio controlled sailplanes (or gliders if you prefer). My longest flight to date is one hour and 9 minutes. The level 5 thermal flight requirement is 2 hours and the slope soaring requirement is 8 hours. I'd have a heck of a time managing a 2 hour thermal flight even if the air was compliant because my neck probably wouldn't be. Anyway, I like to build modern or nostalgic, non scale thermal sailplanes. Here are a couple that I have built and flown. I have 9 or 10 flyable now, but not pictures of all of them.

A "stretched" Airtronics Legend with 120" wingspan (my oldest son Chris holding it):

A standard class Airtronics Aquila (100" span):

My largest to date, a Skybench Oly III with 132" span:

I will at some point have to give it up because my eyes are getting marginal for the task of flying them.

I guess my other current hobby is caring for and loving my cats a couple of which have found their way into photos here.

Here's two of them in an older photo. I took new pics this afternoon of them. I have four others, five of them litter mates as I "adopted" a litter in April 2011.

Here's today's picture of Mike:

and Bonnie. If you're allergic to cats, don't sit in this chair.:

That's great-- thanks! The younger-and-now pictures of Mike especially melt my heart, given my growing Boys here. At a glance, your Bear reminds me of our Kuzco, who showed up to "help" me take pictures of knives this afternoon:

Out of curiosity, have you ever flown in gliders yourself? There was a small airstrip nearby when I was young that offered glider rides, and I loved watching them detach and then silently soar.

Uh, we now return you to your regularly-scheduled Giveaway....

Great Offer! I've never had one of those and keep hearing about them.
My hobby is running. Let me explain that. I ran all through High School and College. Then like many of us here life caught up with me. Busy work schedule......busy Being a Dad and Husband schedule and I let myself slip. Over the years I put on a bunch of weight. It was gradual.
Finally decided enough was enough. Started running again and the first time I went out I thought I would die. I made it 1/4 mile. I was up to 384 pounds.
I dropped 160 of those and have now run 5 full marathons (26.2 miles) and many more half marathons (13.1 miles)
My hobby. What's yours guys? Nice idea for a post Hump!

jackperryman

My newest hobby(me to the right)!!!
jackperryman

And Primitive(ish) archery... I'm not too great at the whole accuracy part.

And as many others on this forum I enjoy making knives and other sorts of metalworking

Hi Andi,

Thanks for the opportunity. I just a newb here but enjoy knives of all types. I've made several posts in this sub-forum, so hopefully I will qualify for your GA.

I own several traditional Case knives, and have started to branch out from there buying some from forum members and custom makers. My absolute favorites (so far) are:

redneck_bullnose.jpgdoghead knife.jpgcorsican_vendetta.jpg

Besides knives, woodworking, mostly crafts, is a major hobby. Here are a couple of items I have made for family.

Thanks again for the opportunity.

Edit: not an entry

I BBQ. It's even more expensive than my knife habit.

Pork and chicken from this weekend.
