2,000th post Giveaway - Winners chosen pg3 post nr. 56

Please count me in on the GA, and thank you for the chance.
My hobbies are usually reading and the outdoors. Mostly fishing in the summer and hunting in the fall & winter.
Other than that I take care of my family and love cooking too.

Congrats on 2K Andi! This is not an entry as I have an Opinel, but I can't resist when other hobbies come up since I have way too many :D. I think my user name says a lot:

Then there's watches, one of my favorites (mid 90's Seiko 7002 automatic diver on an Olongapo "Scout" bracelet")

I've been a drummer for 30+ years gigging around NE Pennsylvania:

And last but not least there is Scouts, 11 years as a leader, 2 as Scoutmaster. I was never a Boy Scout growing up, so I am having a blast now!

Also I loved building Cub Scout Pinewood Derby cars, but my boys are too old, and it takes me forever to carve them, but these are a couple I've built for the "Dad's Race" when we were in the Cub Scout Pack:

They're all pine blocks with added parts of basswood and other bits. Only the driver details were bought (they're weights), but then they need to be painted.

Wow, Duncan! Your art is terrific!

And everyone else has cool hobbies too, love the radio controlled gliders. I've only seen one in flight, one of my former Scouts is an R/C modeler of prop planes, another builds off-road R/C trucks.

Great GAW Andi, congrats on the 2000. You guys have some fun hobbies and great talent! Other than Knives I have photography as a passion. I just wish I had more time to get out.

Andi, please count me in, and congratulations on 2000!

As a career military guy nearing retirement, I'm reviving some of my old hobbies that I've let get crowded out over the years. Hiking with my family, BBQs at the house, reading, and restoring old Coleman lanterns--all very enjoyable.

Like Vanguard and Doug Add, I'm a pen fan...nothing like a great fountain pen. These days, though, I use a couple Lamy's, and admire Doug's superb Parker Duofolds from afar (for my own good)!

These are simply amazing! Growing up in Indiana and spending nearly every May at the Speedway as a boy, some of these old cars bring back fantastic memories!

Zippofan,

Thanks for the further glimpses into some of your cool collections and interests. Those derby cars are impressive.

I'm also glad to see that, even though relegated to the unfinished basement, you've been provided with both bathroom facilities and a dog!

Zippo-wow mate, what a cool lot of photos, Those cars...you say you carved them?....what do you mean?

Thank you Doug, I appreciate it :) I was a huge race fan as a kid (open wheel Indy/USAC) and live not too far from Long Pond, which originally started as a tri-oval for Indy cars in 1971, NASCAR didn't arrive until '74, 3 years after it opened. I saw the Unser Johnny Lightning Colt and Rutherford McLaren race (and got both Al and Johnny's autographs) and wished I could have seen Jimmy Clark in '65 and Graham Hill in the "whooshmobile" in '67. The last one I carved was the Parnelli Jones Watson, he was my Dad's favorite driver and that car won Indy the year I was born.

Now that I have all these great knives I'm itching to carve a couple more, Mario Andretti's 1969 Hawk and the 2010 BSA Special Dallara. I always make such a mess of the house when making them though :D

Duncan, yes, I make rough cuts with a coping saw, them carve the basic shape with knives (whatever was handy, SAK's, a Zippo Cut-About), then finish with sanding drums on a Dremel.

And ~P, you've discovered my dog Bear hanging around the basement, here's a better pic:

And here's his partner in crime Annie:

I say that because they ate the couch that Annie is laying on in that pic :p Border Collies, even rescued mixed breeds need to be kept busy or they will find something to do!

So, you're just a year younger than me. I remember USAC races at Pocono, but never was able to attend one. We should talk USAC racing off the forum. I basically grew up at the racetrack (Winchester Speedway just down the road), and met many of the Indy drivers there or at IMS. I saw A.J. Foyt win his fourth Indy 500, and Rick Mears the first of his four.

Great dogs, and I know what you mean about keeping them active!

Hey Zippo, I am impressed my friend!! they are so very well done.... just fantastic! Love the dog by the way.
