2 is 1... 1 is none

I didn't see any indication that CM was referring to wilderness application.

Look up at the top and check which forum we're in.

It appears he is more speaking to a SHTF-type event and the Rolex/I-phone was used strictly as hyperbole. Unless, of course, I completely missed something.

Maybe so, though I don't see it.

You are right.

To me, that gets back to the question of how much can/should one be expected to take it? How many CO monitors should you have in your house? Should you place a ladder out of each of your windows or is a rap set-up good enough? What about fire extinguishers? AED? Saline bags? Really, how far do you wanna go with this?

Exactly. That's the first thing I asked in my OP.

I did. It says Wilderness and SURVIVAL Skills. This is not the first time that non-wilderness subjects have come up in here. However, everyone wanted to jump on the "Let's Rip on CM" bandwagon, so they (this includes you) are just coming up with nonsense.

Oh, well then...perhaps the following will help:

That is exactly the point of the thread. If you read any of the other posts in this forums, you will see that the topic of how many of <insert piece of gear here> should be carried comes up often. CM is just relating it to a more urban environment. That people here, allegedly literate adults*, cannot see that the example of the Rolex was not to be taken literally amazes me.

*Not directed specifically at you.

Knives. Lighters. Cash.

An awesome 3 position vegetable peeler,( redundant in and of itself:) )

Blankets, candy and canned food.

That people ignore a pattern amazes me. To each his own opinion.

Agreed. Between your posts and the combat action badge....looking to prove something?

just a heads up that isn't a combat action badge in his sig that is a combat infantry badge and there is a very big difference. anyone who earned there CIB should be very proud of and display if they want to. it is one of the very most respected badges there is. /rant off

again i think c/m is a bit eccentric to say the least but its a valid question. where do you draw the line and on what. i posted how i felt about it earlier but again once you go out and deal with not having something you truly need (not want or something that made you uncomfortable but need as your life depends on it) its a different story and if he was infantry thats probably his reason. i used my knives in iraq and afghanistan as pry bars, mre opener, window breaker, strip clothes off injured soldiers/buddies and anything else you can do with a knife even if its not meant to be done. and when you put them through that type of abuse it breaks sooner or later no matter what and when over there you can't just get a new one that day (well i guess unless your in the green zone or biap which i never got to see but they are a option) so me i learned to carry multiples of what i needed and used on a regular for when i was doing something dumb that needed to be done and broke something.

CM's behavior is generally aimed to gain attention. We get that. However, he asked a perfectly relevant question and was met by those who just could not wait to rag on him again. If you really had nothing to add to the discussion, why did you chime in?

Here's a question: Does chiming in on a thread just to call the OP an attention whore (regardless of your wording) make you any less of an attention whore yourself?

If the question was relevant to W&SS, it wouldn't have been moved to G&G. The only reason it was brought back is that regardless of the OP, the replies were W&SS related despite the OP.

Maybe not. Does continuing to argue a point I've already conceded to differing opinions make you any less of one? Are we done now?

I knew what the OP was getting at and my response by citing different examples of "what ifs?" is that it's pretty much foolish to live in that state of paranoia in my opinion. I actually feel bad for someone whom lives with that mindset. I guess I should've just stated that.

lol it does revhard. a lot of guys carry none cause their's are at home on the old lady's shelf :)

Why is it that preparedness automatically equals paranoia? About a year or so ago, we had a thread, started by our missing moderator, about what to do and pack in case you were on an airplane that went down. Is that paranoid? After all, planes are supposed to be one of the safer ways to travel.
i carry two nuts, where some guys only carry one and then even some go with out?
does that count?

some people don't choose to live in that kind of mindset, some people end up with that kind of mindset because of what they have experienced, lived or survived through. it is not a choice, it is the way it is for some people, and you just have to do what you can to keep from ripping out of your skin. sometimes doing what you can, may seem 'odd', or 'foolish' to people but that is because they just don't understand.
