2 questions what led u to Beker knives and what led u to the BK&T forum?

I have liked Becker's for years, Even talked to Ethan on the phone once back in the late 80's/ early 90's when I called about his knives. Sadly it was years later when Camillus started working with him before I got one. I think I found the forum thought the WSS forum.

what led u to Beker knives and what led u to the BK&T forum?

I'd read about Becker knives here at BladeForums many, many times. What 'nudged' me to buy one, sorry to say, was Camillus going out of business.

What led me to the BKT forum? I think this is the first time I've posted here, so you could say it was this topic. :)

I now own three, two Camillus and a KaBar that's en-route.

1st question: I got a BK7 to replace my CS SRK CV, it was a little longer and DawsonBob told me that would be the ticket.. I didn't want the esee6 as it was to close to the CS SRK ....

2nd question: BladeForums in general lead me here, but the only ones that posted back then was Bladite and DawsonBob, there would be maybe at best 3 posts in a day, I'm not kidding....Remember that Moose?? now look at this place... its off the chain !!!

Been a collector since I was a kid. Mostly martial arts stuff. Joined BF to learn more on an old Balisong I have and kept reading threads about the "Becker Necker" so I bought one. Been heading downhill ever since.;)

Father taught me wilderness skills when I was young. Didn't really appreciate it until I entered college for Marine Engineering( when the instructor was talking about worst case scenarios and survival, asked how many people can start fires without lighters, I was the only one there with my hand up) Decided to get back into it and asked him for advice on which knife to get. He told me to get a USMC KaBar, because it's pretty universal(and inexpensive) for a starter knife, and decide what I like more the length for survival or thinness for bushcrafting. Some surfing lead me to equip 2 endure hh leatherworks(if not only to throw the "inexpensive" aspect out the window) Year went by and I'm floored with the quality of the sheath but wanted a little better knife so went back to HH Leatherworks. Looked at the Tracker for a whole set of 2 seconds and then the bk2. Liked the BK2 but wanted a longer blade so opted for the 7(sometimes I feel I let that one get away lol). Opened the box and then IMMEDIATELY fell in love with the knife; although, took it outside and wasn't really digging the sheath. Looking around for fixes and mods brought me here. Kindred spirits and the like, stuck around. Still haven't fixed that sheath, and waiting to see how much(if I can get it at all) the ten will cost, cross that bridge, and then onto the BK2.

I received the 11 as a gift from OREGON FAL'er because I needed a good fixed blade knife for my woods adventures, and then he also told me about the forums. I lurked around here for a while so see what it was like, and decided y'all were cool dudes :D
That was the first Becker I ever bought.

My friend bought an ESEE5 in Jan. 2010, and I was absolutely smitten with it. Went home, and started to research it and similar knives. Stumbled upon the BK2 on Youtube, and the rest is history.

I walked into SMKW to replace a broken Kabar 1217. While I was waiting for the lady at the counter, mine own eyes wandered, like the tend to do, until I came across a badass looking knife, that would surely replace my 1217. It was a BK7. I handled all the Camillus BKT's in the counter, poured through some case stock, until I picked 3 that left with me. Also picked up a couple more 1217's. Been using them ever since. That was around '96 or '97.

I met Ethan one day, after finding BFC to find out some more about BKT's. Got to talk to Ethan on here one day, met him for lunch. We've met once a weeks since then, and I go hang out at his place from time to time. He made me a Mod here, the rest, well, its in the archives. :D

I really don't recall how I was first introduced to the BK9, but that was my first Becker knife. I wanna say I got it in like '03 or '04, something like that. I joined BF in '06, but got really turned off to it after my 5th or 6th post got me called a mall ninja, which was ridiculous because all the post did was answer someone's question about had anyone tried a new blade that had just been released. That thread went on for several pages where I tried to just discuss the topic at hand, but it was really frustrating so I pretty much wrote BF off for awhile. For the record, I don't think there was a BK&T sub-forum here at the time to take refuge from idiots in.

Anyway, I was also a member at Survivalist Boards, and recall getting in a rather heated discussion with a guy there in a thread entitled something like, "What's the best survival knife?" I posted that for me, my BK9 was indispensable in my bug out load out. Another guy took issue with my choice and called me names and everything because I didn't pick the BK2 instead! LOL Good Lord, the things people will argue about! Anyway, the dude did inspire some subsequent intelligent conversation having mostly to do with the Becker lineup, and so I added my first BK2 to my collection shortly thereafter, then about 6 months later added another one for GW's GHB, and just a couple or three months ago, added my third. But hey dude, if you're reading, I still would pick the 9 if I could only take one with me! LOL

Early this year I started visiting BF regularly again and found the BK&T sub-forums. Thanks to y'all, Ethan and Tooj and Ka-Bar's participation here, I have forgiven BF for my contentious beginnings here. LOL

Y'all a great bunch.

1) I wanted a small knife and discreet knife as alternative to my British Service Khukuri. The BK2 seems the logical choice. Moose did give it rave reviews too, I am sold. LOL!

2) How could anyone miss BK&T Forum? You guys dont stop yapping about Becker knifes, I had to come check out the commotion. :)

...decided y'all were cool dudes :D

This, of course, is quite correct. We are so cool you could keep a side of beef in us for a month.

Just realized the OP asked two questions and I failed to answer one. It's true that BF led me to Beckers (spent lots of time drooling over Becker, ESEE and HI - liked both the looks and the cost of the Beckers the best) but spending some time on Hammock Forums led me here to BF.

There was some sort of knife porn thread over there that ended up being the one thread I spent most of my time on. Posters there mentioned BF a few times and then the thread was locked down to paying members only. Lame-o but here I am. :D

Once on BF, I started seriously poking around in the sub-forums, quickly trimmed the manufacturer's forums about which I cared down to the three mentioned above. Though I still like the notion of good kukris, I like the notion of good American made (and styled) blades better. One of these days, I may get a CAK but I don't see something like that replacing my BK9.

This is what I posted the last couple of times this question came up:

I have had a Camillus marine combat knife since I was 11. It is my most prized possession, but sadly it is past it's prime. The leather stacked handle is loose, I didn't take near good enough care of it, and it needs to rest, it has done enough.

I found out Camillus had gone under, and was looking for a good replacement. I saw something at some point that someone had said about the County Comm breacher bar looking like a TacTool, so I checked it out, and thought the TacTool was awesome. Not only did this thing look like it could chop a cinder block in half, it was made by a guy whose stuff used to be through Camillus, and I knew most of their stuff was decent quality back then, and I know Kabar has decent quality stuff now, and the TacTool was retard strong, so I said hellz yes, I want it.

It didn't work out, I never use it, but I love the fact that I have it. The BK2 was the choice for the next knife though, after much debate between it and the BK7. I went with the 2, and I couldn't be happier. This thing made me feel like that day 19 years ago and my dad let me get that Camillus. I lit up light Christmas, and I can tell you now, I may buy other knives, but I am always going to come back for more Beckers. Love em.

As far as finding the forum here, I mod the heck out of everything I get my hands on, so doing a search for BK2 mods, it was a natural progression to ending up here. I posted a few times, expecting it to be like every other forum experience where I feel I have little to add, but as time went on, I found myself posting here pretty much to the exclusion of everywhere else. I was very happily surprised that I seemed to have found myself a new home on the internets. Love this place.

but got really turned off to it after my 5th or 6th post got me called a mall ninja

Heh, this exact thing happened to me on this very forum. But since I'm absolutely 100% a mall ninja, I got over the butthurt and carried on with life! Hiyah!

I was searching for a bigger, choppier knife, and remembered handling a Camillus era Becker that belonged to my grandpa. Upon looking into Becker knives, I found Bladeforums and got a BK9, and then a BK11, and then the BK14 when it came out, and then...

"what led u to Beker knives and what led u to the BK&T forum?"

always had a thing for outdoors and blades for some reason, just like most ppl here. was looking to venture into fixed blades as i didn't really have any. working an overnight shift i came across bladeforums. started doing research and came across a lot of posts about beckers and rats (at the time at least). that led me to the forum and did a lot of reading when comparing the different models as i figured they seemed to be about the two best production companies out there. have handled but not purchased a becker yet, and only own one esee. trying to make the purchases count since i can't blow my whole budget on knives haha...and i fully expect the majority of you to think "why the hell not?" in response to that.

I use to only carry a Swiss multi-tool and an axe for years then on my 47th birthday I was out hiking and met this gentleman on the trail. We ended up talking for hours while we hiked, we decided to make camp. He said he'd go out and collect wood for the fire, I handed him my axe and he said he didn't need it and pulled out his BK-2 and smiled. The things he did with that knife made me wondered why I carried an axe all these years. After that trip I bought my first BK-2, and now I have 2 and 1 BK-11. I found the Becker forums while looking on the net for a place to buy my BK-2. I wasn't really into knives. I always just used my old Swiss that I had since high school it never failed me but after seeing a BK-2 in action, well you all know, you just have to have one or two. When I bought my second BK-2 I got a great deal on a Spyderco bushcraft so I think my knife buying days are done. I think................. :)

I've been a BF member for several years now. Use a small utility tractor to mow a couple acres bordered by woods behind the house. Needed a small machete-like chopping tool to keep with me on the tractor to cut the occasional limb that got in the way.

Ordered a Fiskars 7860 Brush Axe from amazon.com. It was so dull that chopping anything would have been a chore. Returned the Brush Axe.

Read reviews of various other machetes and knives and eventually stumbled onto the Becker forum. Was torn between a BK2, BK7 and BK9 for this application. Eventually decided on a BK7 and that turned out to be a good decision.

Since then I have ordered a couple of the 7-1/2" Kabar fighting/utility knives from amazon but both were returned because they just didn't compare to the Becker BK7.

Added a set of micarta scales to the BK7 just because I could and find it rides quite happily in the original sheath suspended from the throttle lever on my JD utility tractor.

The BK7 will spoil you . . . looking forward to adding other Beckers in time. Habit forming aren't they? :D
