2 x 72" Grinder Build

I know what a Green ScotchBrite pad is . . .

What size ?

But what method do you use to mount to a drill press?

Thanks in advance,
Steve

I just superglue a piece to a 1/2" bolt. You can use any size you want, and a dowel rod would work as well.

I have a question. How is the drive wheel held on to the motor shaft since the wheel is so close to the frame? Is there a small hole in the rubber and the wheel to allow tightening of a setscrew on the motor key? I have seen some wheels with an angled hole on the front but do not see one here. Just curious. Thanks, Larry

There is actualy a stepped down area on the drive wheel which has a set scre in it. You can see this 3/8ish wide section in this photo. The rubber is solid all the way around. This is just an extra drive wheel I had and thus I used it. A crowned aluminum drive wheel would work just fine as well.

I just realized that you had already built and all aluminum grinder that was a clone of the KMG. It was beautiful as well. I'm curious. Do you still have the clone grinder? This new one with the multiple tool arm receptacles is even more functional. Will you now build a horizontal grinder? You certainly have the talent for design.

Larry, yes indeed, I still have the 6061 KMG clone. I have Nathan's water cooled flat platten on it and that is how I keep it set up. I have designed and built a 2x48" horiztonal griinder, similar to the Beumont style, but with a coupe modifications that work better for me. I built and posted that about a year ago and I have plans for this grinder too if anyone wants them.

BJansen, I really like the flush (or below) Allen screws you used on your grinder and I am wondering where you found a drill with a pilot to counter sink the screw heads and what is the drill called? Is it a step drill? Thank, Larry

You, sir, are an inspiration to us all. That's one gorgeous grinder as is the horizontal you built before..................

Mostly what I see he used the tapered screw heads

They are called Hex socket flat head countersink head screws

They use a countersink cutter to make the cut

You match the angle of the cut to the angle on the screw head 82 degrees is most common

You can just buy one, not a set
