"2008" A VERY GOOD Year?

You and Kevin are quick to point out my web site. Neither you nor Kevin has still explained why the ABS cannot update its website. Kevin has no answer, perhaps you can address this. Is it really the lack of manpower to add the 6 ABS Mastersmiths to a list of already existing makers? It was a rhetorical question, I don't expect you to know why. Why should you care...the ABS doesn't.

First Les, I would have never said anything derogatory about your website if not for your negative comments regarding other's sites in two recent threads. You know what they say, "people who live in glass houses, shouldn't throw stones".
If the result of this is that you're getting a modernized website then I'm thrilled that something positive has come from the mess on this thread.

Second, please don't wait for my explanation as I couldn't care less whether or not the ABS updates their old site. I'm more interested in their new site.

We'll see how I fare with my new website, now that it's finally opened and ready to go!
Still lots to do, but at least it's opened. Which, so far for me, makes 2008 a VERY GOOD Year!

I just wrote a long response to each of Les Robertson's points and then I decided it was not worth it. I got to say what I wanted and I stand by each word. Les is a person incapable of civil discussion and is one who loves to stir the pot. In order to truly expose him for who he is one would have to bring facts to light that were told in confidence and I would never do that. Time will tell the truth.

Back to 2008 now...........

Kevin,

I was addressing your business only.

Of course you were. As everyone else is a "real business" except mine.

Nice to see that you are the one who gets to pick and choose which is a "real" business.

My business is a C Corporation...you know like Coca Cola, Microsoft, etc. True not on the same scale. However, the tax code and basics are the same.

Josh,

As usual you have not answered the question I asked about why the 6 MS makers have not been added to the ABS Website. Your tactic like Kevin's is to try avert attention to the question by addressing the question with some kind of accusation about something else.

Of course you cannot discuss anything you heard in private. Doing so would allow me to address the issue. Issues that you and those "others" would prefer not addressed in public.

Quite frankly I don't give a "crap" what you heard or what you think. At best you have one side of the story.

Like you I stand behind every word I write or say.

When you get a chance ask Kevin about the Non-Profit Company he wanted to start. Then asked him who explained to him that Non-Profit is a tax status not a business entity. Apparently you need an MBA to know those kinds of things as Kevin (and others) did not know that.

Back to 2008......

Guys, I have no dog in this all of this derogatory verbiage, but we are all entitled to our opinions and think this thread has drifted off to the point of needing to be in W&C.

It started off as a very good year and I still think it is, lets' stop all personal attacks and go our way.

It was a good year indeed, because of the family here on BF. I went to Blade for the first time. :D I got to meet and know, Tony Bose, John Hanlon, Kerry Hampton, Gus, Blues, Jerry Halfrich, Dan Koster, Mike Robuck, RandyW, Campbell, Robert Dark, Teacher, Paul Long, Don Hanson and many others. Really too numerous to mention all. I just collect, and give material away to new makers and some older ones. I have many friends here on the forum and I appreciate each and every one of them.

It hurts me to see all the flaming going on, so if for no other reason, I am asking, Please stop.

Just my .02 as a friend of many who have posted. If you need to flame me because of this polite request. Go ahead, I am unsubscribing and will post no more as I am hoping the flames will stop here and now for the sake of the family.

....

1. Josh, the bolded portion of the statement is not true....Les may not always be nice, but he is almost always civil.

2. I asked Les to chime in initially, personally, and he did. If you and Kevin will stop responding with personal slights, so will Les......your choice.

3. I'm glad that you took off the gloves a bit, and let your proverbial hair down...you should do it more, it suits you....I always figured you could be a rough SOB if it came down to it, already knew you were tough....Montana chews the weak up and craps them out in San Francisco where they belong.

I have to admit to being a bit of a rubber necker in all this. Usually I'd say and feel the same thing as James, but in this case the train wreck is disturbingly entertaining.

I am always amazed at how heated and unfriendly a discussion becomes
on every major forum in the world, i.e. the Parliaments or similar politically
oriented settings, where true animosity is displayed in public.
BUT then, a few minutes later in the cafeteria, everyone becomes greatest
buddy-buddy friends as if nothing happened....

I suppose the same is true here, on this Forum, at least I do hope so.....

All the best,

What was the original topic of this thread again? Oh yeah, was 2008 a good year or not.

With the ABS about to be getting their new website up and running, the CKCA getting started, at least some shows enjoying record attendance and sales, and some dealers and collectors apparently having excellent years so far, I would say that it's been a good year.

2008 has been outstanding.

It's always a great year when in one weekend you have

Tim Hancock
Larry Fuegen
Harvey Dean
Tom Ferry
Wade Colter
Rick Dunkerley
Bruce Bump
Shane Taylor
Jon Christensen
Bill Burke
Coop
Erik Fritz
Dave Harvey
15 incredible collectors
85 other makers
and a great wife hosting a hammer-in in your shop. I can't believe how lucky I am to have so many wonderful people gather here to share their love of knives with each other. 2008 has been a blast and 2009 is shaping up even better.

As far as i can EVER remember i have never heard Kieth in personal arguement with anyone. While i have many times seen him in disagreements, never personal. Which leads me to think he is more mature than most of us others.(me incl.) Or, just know how to avoid the personal stuff. Keith, please tell us how you do it?. I will try to follow all 12 steps to recovery. Serious.

I am convinced we can all survive THIS thread. Big happy!
(Somebody should invite some girls.)

It will be interesting to see what next year brings.

Today I was thinking about next year's show schedule and just the summer and fall will bring the Blade Show, Josh's, AG's, PKA, new Guild (Louisville KY.), new ABS (San Antonio), Blade Show West, Chicago, Jerry Fisk Invitational and the AKI. Ten shows in 5 months and I probably missed a couple.

When you add the small, regional and invitational shows shows like the Plaza Show, Spirit of Steel, Arkansas, State shows like Ohio Classic, Florida Knifemakers Association, Montana, Badger, etc., all of the general collector shows, various and sundry hammer-ins and the foreign shows like Thiers, Solingen SICAC, Gembloux, DKE, etc, 2009 looks like it could be an overwhelming year.

So I guess show promoters are bullish as I know of two new shows in the works. Santa Barbara which is going off years to Solvang I believe, and an invitational in New England which will go off years to the AKI.

Any others?

We have kicked around a CKCA show down the road featuring member makers but nothing serious yet. We have also discussed virtual shows.

I think eventually it would be a very good idea for the CKCA to put on a show, but it will take a lot of planning.

Virtual shows sound like an interesting idea, and one that could be implemented much sooner than an actual show.

yay Keith! Make it happen!
CKCA members only show...
