2008 Knifemakers Gift exchange companion thread

I love recurve's in the Phillip Patton style, I love Brian Good's Drop Point EDC companion style. Been craving a bushcrafter like a BRKT Bravo 1. A Nesmuk has been lookin pretty tasty too...as well as a forged hawk ala' Stuart Willis. As far as production knives go Puma's White hunter makes me feel all funny as do the KA Bar Camp Knives. I prefer natural to synthetic handle material. I also prefer carbon to stainless. I'm not real big on neckers. But No Matter What though, what ever it is, by who ever made it, I will always treasure it and USE it. :D I'm not picky though so surpise me

Being new to knife making, I would be happy with any knife that a person makes. I think for us newbies if a knife is given in the spirit of the thread, it will be received the same way. At least I hope so, I am unsure how the one I am building is going to turn out, but you will know that I have spent may a sleepless night designing and building it.

I like all knives, especially one the maker pours all his or her current talent into. Whether newbie or pro, this knife will be special to me.

I love knives... all of them, i am however, very fond of loveless style drop points,i love micarta and hardwoods. im not hard to please and as a new maker myself i will love anything that the maker decides to make. Im going to do my best and push my skills in this one, i hope i can please the maker i give my knife to.

I would like a knife the maker is best at making. It can be as simple as a blade with scales but as good as he can make it. I plan to use it daily in the shop so smallish is good. I like all steels and handle materials.

The knife I plan to make is a forged W2 blade with a stainless single guard, spacers and elk tine handle but can change if needed. I could show a few progress shots if you like. This exchange idea is very cool.

I'd like the knife that the maker has second thougths about giving away:D-really-anything goes for me.I have preferances, but I would prefer something the maker thinks is great.

As my profile states, I my favorite type of knife is a fixed blade, utility type knife. A knife that I can use for just about anything. To me, that is the highest honor that someone can do for one of my knives is use it! I know that I will appreciate any knife that I receive from any maker of any skill level. I'm so easy to please it's not funny! :D -Matt-

If you get my name, make what your best at or something you always wanted to try and make it sharp.

I like most knives and will be happy with whatever The maker decides to make as long as he/she is proud of it I will be too.

I too would like a knife that the maker really hates to give away as that is how I feel about the one I am giving away.

The only thing making it a bit better is I got to make a Kershaw Nakamura from the same slab for my personal collection. If you do a search in the Kershaw forum you can find pictures of that knife and there is one in the album I have in my profile page too....

Me too. The nice thing about a gift like this is it's a surprise. You might get something you didn't know you liked until you got it. At least I know it won't be a sweater or a tie.

I prefer a large knife in feather damascus, mammoth, mokume, maybe some diamonds, and preferably in the form of a cut and shoot as that one by Bruce Bump looked awesome. Other than that I am not picky....really.

Actually anything the person who gets my name wants to make is what I want. I want a knife that the maker would want for themselves. Thanks again Scott for setting this up.

:DHMMMmmmm...knitted handle scales.:D
Is that to keep your hands warm when your out skinning a deer with it? :D My wife said she'll knit a sock for the knife I make....not the safest of sheaths though!

At least I know it won't be a sweater or a tie.

Use your discretion. The surprise is the fun part.

Right handed.

Of course I do have opinions.

I don't like a buffed mirror polish, especially when it round off all grind lines.
lengthwise hand - satin is practial and pretty

I tend to like a thin flat grind for the cutting value.
Having said that, my EDC folder is a double hollow grind spear point.

I love dagger shapes, but so far haven't got the skills to turn out a good one of my own.
They just keep getting smaller and smaller without ever hitting symmetrical at some point between big bar in my hands and a pile of dust on the floor.

I tend to like the silver colours such as Silver, Stainless, and NS more that the golden colours of brass and yellow gold.

Patinas can be cool, and an active Hammon is super neato.
Feather Damascus is tops.

I do like the synthetics for their practicality, but of course, natural materials are pretty. Stabilized are both.

I have an appreciation for hawks too.
Have none and want them all, so lots of room there.

Being in Canada we have a whole list of No-No's:
No autos (bastards!)
No D-Guards (a brass knuckle rule)
No gravity knives (folder pivots should fully be over-tightened)
(The customs boys have a nice collection of folders from overzealous testing of this rule)
No punch daggers
No concealed (disguised as jewelry or pens, or belt buckles)
-

Plus side
No length limits
No restrictions on double edges
