2009 Forum Knife - Barlow won by a nose

We will make that work airyq. I do not mind shipping anywhere for anyone who orders one and the cost for shipping can be worked out. I like it when these forum knives go all over the world.

I'm in, unless the main blade's a clip - I just don't like 'em on a Barlow. D2's a no-no for me and I'd prefer carbon steel over stainless. I'm flexible on scale material, but to add my two cents, I'd shy away from stag if it drives the price up too much. I say let's go bone. Everyone loves bone.

Gus, I just want to say thanks for keeping some order in the chaos!

Gus and Steve,

Thanks for all the work you are putting in, and will be putting in...

I'm in. My preference being carbon steel and stag or bone.:thumbup:Thanks

I'm in, regardless of construction...

Thanks,

Glenn

I am in with whatever you choose! Thata said I do prefer stag, bone, micarta in that order. Thanks for running this!

Like D.Parker, two full length blades is my preference. It would make the knife special, and remembered in future years! Sawcut bone handles would keep the costs in order, but jigged is O.K. 1095 steel would be nice and traditional. If the bolster is squarish then halfstops should be there like most of the older knives.
I am in for two knives no matter what! I have a special plan for the second knife you will all like!

I'm in. I would prefer a single blade 1095 spearpoint blade. A nice brown jigged bone handle would complete the package.

I'm in for one, would prefer 2 BIG;) blades( at least a spear) good ole 1095 and bone or stag!!:D

I'm guessing this will be a larger Barlow, maybe over 3.5" closed? Personally, I'd like to see one with 2 full size blades (1 wharny would be nice), instead of a large & small blade. I'm thinking carbon steel too, but D2, not 1095.

I still think jigged micarta would be pretty nice.

Of course I'm in.

Fellas...it's like this....we will see what the manufacturers can come up with for us...sort of like a Chinese takeout menu.....D2 WILL be the preferred steel(as it is not completely repellent to any knowledgeable collector)....BUT if they can rustle up some carbon for us and do a great heat treat...THAT will decide more than anything else....we will do our absolute best....including request of different blade shapes and sizes, price will be factored in as an important concern.

The loudest complainer will automatically be nominated as next year's Forum knife facilitator(I hope it gets to be Wintermute:D)

Thanks again, Gus.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I'm in for whatever is decided on. My preference would be, For primary blade a full length swedged spearpoint, secondary blade anything but a spey (a full length clip would be nice.) For steel 1095 carbon its more traditional and in my opinion it takes a keener edge it also patinas nicer than d2. For handle material brown sawcut or jigged bone. I don't like micarta on slipjoints it just doesn't say traditional to me and stag is to hard to get right (to my liking at least). For length of knife closed nothing more than 3.5 inches 3 3/8 would be perfect. Halfstops would be great.

P.S. Thank You Gus and STeven. And to all who are contributing their ideas time and resources to this project.

Thanks Gus for your work on this.

I'm going to wait to see what we decide on blade/handle wise. I don't prefer bone or stag, I'd like to see some micarta on the handle. A nice dark wood would be nice too. Blade I would prefer a stainless, but if you had to go non, I'd pick 52100/M4/D2/A2. M4 is just me dreaming though. ;)

Thanks for the effort Gus, and for a no BS decision in the end.
I am not a Barlow guy, but will reserve final judgement until material, blades etc.. are worked out. Bone/Stag, D2, 3.5" or less, 2 blades, at or under $100? I'm probably in for something like that.

Barlow! W00t!

D2, A2, 1095, etc. are all suitable steel choices from my perspective. I'd even go with ATS-34 if that was what worked.

Jigged bone or micarta would be ideal for a handle material.

Thanks very much fellas ----I'm in regardless. If you made one of the blades a wharny some of the swayback guys might think twice. I'm kinda nuts for jigged micarta but I know I can be a little different. I do prefer 1095. This is a user for me it won't be on the shelf. I'm looking forward to this knife. Once again thanks
