2009's What Did You Cut Today w/ Your Buck?

The Dutch Oven thing works great. I messed up on this one a little. The catch pan I put under the oven fit way to snug and it choked off the air flow to the bottom coals. So the veggies didn't cook. Chicken was fine though.

Matt, How much time do you give that?

Well the 110 under went maintenance (lubed) today. So I had to fall back on the Smidgen. It worked very well on the BBQ Rib eye. BTW I just put a new edge on it with my Sharpmaker. Needless to say it was like cutting warm butter. Now I bet your hungry. :D

Didn't use a knife on the finished product but cut up the deer and elk meat with my kitchen 121 to make a pot of chili on this blustery cold day(spit snow). Lettuce and spinach seedlings are growing in egg crates under lights for transplant late next week.(70 predicted) Will carry my new edc 307 to cut the clear plastic frost tent.....
Picture of crappie helped me remember to not catch more than 10 at a time if cleaning them by myself...and don't keep little ones.

Baking a chicken in a Dutch Oven is simple. I use a 10" or 12" oven and I wipe out the cast iron oven with olive oil and a paper towel to get started. Then add a few potatos and carrots cut into chunks. Then place a whole chicken on top of the veggies. I split the chicken so it fits better (flatter). Season liberally with seasoning salt.

To cook just put the lid on and then cover the lid with charcoal using metal kitchen tongs. Then lift the whole thing and set it on the remaining charcoal which should be sufficient to cover the bottom. It should be done in a little over an hour. (You can check the progress if you are careful when removing the lid. You will need something to remove the lid. I use the flat end of a crow bar.)

It's really hard to goof this up. However, don't set the coals and oven into a catch pan that fits too snug because that will choke out the bottom coals. I've cooked this a dozen times and only messed up once. That is the one shown in the photos. The catch pan in the photos is clearly too small. Doh!

Thanks for the recipe and I look forward to trying that. Cabelas has a tool for taking lids off of dutch ovens. I'll look into getting one.

I used the 307 to prepare the tape and box up the new Cabelas Buck AG 110 to send off for a new boot.

I had a stove guy come by today to help me replace the insulation around the Country Stove properly. He used a well worn Old Timer stockman to do his prep work and by the looks of it that knife, it was a valued and trusted friend for Larry the Stove Guy. It was nice to see a knife used as a tool today.

Long,Yes, a 110 should do that.Looks like a pigmy goat.Do they do well in the climate there?DM

poor little goat,,, probably thinks thats a spey blade you are coming after him with. :D

i used a 110 to cut some hard dried deer stick a friend let me have..
paid his share of the processor 30 lb at 30 $ what a deal!
the 110
the 420 HC worked jest fine!
thought of trying out some ats 34 on it ..
may have to do a test with them on a stick..
which can slice thinner?
ats34 /\ bg42 /\ s30v /\ damascus or
good old time 420C..

I used my 119 to skin the bark off a bunch of locust posts, as I am doing some fencing. Beat the heck out of that heavy Axe.

Used my BUCK Odyssey to cut open a clam pack Nighthawk. Going through WW to get oil and they had it clearance to 19.00. Saw the BUCK package and red tag then the BUCK fever flared up, went into convulsions and needed a fix. Got it home and it is a Short, first one I ever seen and way sharper than the full size one I have. Need help!

Just used a little China 303 to slice my THUMB! Not exactly what I should be cutting with it. Trying to get all three of those blades open at the same time was more than an old man should be attempting I guess.

That liquid bandaid stuff works pretty good after you get the bleeding stopped.

Cut open a bag of wild bird seed to fill the feeder. It had one of those "easy open" tear off strips but we don't need no stinkin' easy open strips! Used my Rush.

Well, as I type this, my wife is using the 110 I gave her to cut soap bars. She makes her own soap.

As for me, I used my 277 Alpha Hunter to de-animate some recycling. :)

Wife and I went fishing today in Galveston Bay. I cautioned her on getting backlash in the one rod and reel we were sharing. She fished for an hour and then handed it to me. I made two casts and created the "bird nest" from hell! :foot:

When we got home I cut it out with my 301.
