Yup, Greg! I mentioned the tang stamp. Still a good possibility!!
GEC said for sure, Queen said maybe, CSC said maybe.

Really, i wouldve figured it too expensive! Do we get any input on the typesetting of the stamp, I could help in that regard if needed, i know a thing or two about type (graphic Artist)
just a thought
thanks

Ivan, we are allowed simple block letters under the $300 budget they are quoting me. Anything like representative art, italics or fancy fonts escalates the price considerably.
I asked if they could do a simple arch, and Bill at GEC thought that they could, when I suggested this one:
BFcTANGSTAMP.jpg

Of course it is poorly drawn by my thumb-fingered self, but it resembles some of the nicer old stamps. It would be neatly printed when applied.
Please put forward other suggestions if you wish, but keep it to the block letters.

I think we need to have that exact replica for the logo, multi lined B and all! LOL. I cannot talk smack, that is much neater than I could do it. I like the arch. I love the idea of the tang stamp. It will really make the knife special.

I am sure the letters will be impeccable, compared to my chicken-scratch:D:D!

No date can be used in the stamp;) as it could not be used in subsuquent years:thumbup:.

I think that is my understanding???:)

That is correct.

We COULD do bolster stamping/lasering on the bolsters with Queen, don't know about the other companies. As the group in general seems to disdain blade etching(I do, myself) there aren't many locations to do a date.

GEC will stamp the date separately for free, on the opposite tang, along with their stamp.
I haven't talked to Queen or CSC about the markings yet. Probably after the Shot Show.

For an actual, re-usable stamp, we can only do block letters, sanserif (sp?).
kidwholaughs, I agree .com is a modern term, but I believe we all agree our official name is BFC for Bladeforums.com!!?? And we are not necessarily concerned with the content, just the format, IMO.

I want the tang stamp, and I would like to support GEC with our order because they're turning out very good quality and distinct knives.

I don't have a strong opinion on the details of the model we choose because I know it will be good no matter what.

Agreed. One of the equal end numbers, whether it be a Jack, Moose, or whatever, would be great.

A stag teardrop harness jack would be unique. Adding a plain D-2 blade with the BF tang stamp and the year on the bolster would really set it apart from the others.

Way premature to be committing to one manufacturer.

JRC

Yes and no...

When the 2010 knife facilitator and his team are looking at patterns showing promise in the fact-gathering phase, it helps very much to have a manufacturer in mind for that pattern and confirm that they are interested.

For last year's barlow, we contacted the head honchos at CSC, GEC, Kershaw, and Queen. Queen was the ONLY company interested in doing this pattern, with a firm time commitment....this is information that the knife facilitator(Ramrod) MUST have, and the sooner the better.

Otherwise, a wished-for unobtanium knife remains just that.

Yes on the tang stamp!

Carbon steel, 3.5-4.5 inches closed.

I am with a lot of the other folks who would like to see GEC equal end knife, arched stamp, date stamp on the other side. If we have a distinctive stamping, we could get rid of those nasty shields, and, heaven forbid, serial numbers. Shields, along with being ugly, cost money.
