2010 Forum Knife - Mission Statement

I wonder if it's really THAT important to have a custom tang stamp, who really sees it, hell, most of us need a loop to see anything that small anymore!:D:D
Plus, the first thing most admirers want to see is who made it. I'm kind if in the "use the money for a nice custom shield" camp. You could get a beaut for the same money a stamp would cost, maybe something along the lines of the old Schrade Heritage shield to give you an idea:

You could substitute B.F.C. for the name, and 2010 for the date.

I like all of them Except the .com, I don't like the look and we all know it's .com "Monkeys Uncle" would work for me as well...

The limited edition was utilized because i needed more info to arrange into a pleasing stamp... Look at an old 4 line camillus or a utica usually 2,3,4 lines of info to work with. Listen i understand the .com thing but i believe its not a necessity, and it presents the issue we see above where the dot com "pops" more than bladeforums just by nature of the design.
The limited edition isnt a negative in my book but it seems it is to some, if anybody else has some alternate phrase let me know!
I will work up a stamp of just the BFC, we'll see what sticks.
Addressing the importance or lack thereof,
i had envisioned this as something that could be re-used in years to come, am i wrong in this assumption?
regards
ivan

I agree it is a minor detail, but God is in the details!! (It's been said.)
My reason for bringing up a tang stamp, and specifically a curved one, was to stick to the "traditional" theme. Some of my oldest and best made knives have curved stamps.
Empire, one of the giant companies of its time, stamped its earlier knives with different versions of a curved stamp. Later Schrade used one. Most abandoned them as too expensive to make, and resorted to straight lines. New technology makes them a heck of a lot easier!
For your perusal, and entertainment:D, I have a pic of some here, and will add some more as I find them. They are few among many straight ones.
I guess the strong opinions here indicate we mostly like the idea, we just have to agree on a design! I know the letters are relatively easy to cut, but I am not sure about the nice decorative lines etc. I wish that durn Shot Show were over, so I could find out!
I hope you can see these!

i used my old Utica Barlow with a curved stamp as an example, it's my favorite stamp of my old knives... Has a similar feel as your examples
Maybe we could arm wrestle this thing out:) The victor gets to pick:D

I say pistols at 30 paces!!

Show us your barlow please!:D

I'm in no matter what the final decision is on the knife. But I feel I have to weigh in on the tang stamp. ARCHED, without question, in my book. I would prefer the "BLADEFORUMS" rather than "BFC", and not much on the ".com" part.

My last input til we start voting on details.

Dave

We are not trying to 'sell' this knife outside of the BF community so '.com' is completely superfluous to the members who might buy this blade.

I certainly agree with that, and couldn't get it out as succinctly.

If these were for sale as a generally manufactured knife, that would be one thing. But if they are only for sale here, I am sure we will all know and remember where they came from, right?

Besides, TO ME, the .com makes it look like the cheap "gimme" flashlights, pens, office junk and all other kinds of things used these days as cheap advertising.

We'll all remember where the knife came from, no doubt.

just to tease! and cause i like this Knife:thumbup: Wearing a slightly revised arched stamp and roman numerals on the bolster, and the original bone scales... Still like the ebony but i think we're out numbered on that:)
cheers

"roll that beautiful knife footage!"

I dunno?? Looks cold stamped to me!!!

:D If we leave out the dot.com, then an arched BLADE over a straight line, smaller point FORUMS appeals to me.
Simple, readable.

I'd rather have threaded or rattail bolsters, and a plain shield.
A tang stamp with the year on the reverse is enough adornment for me.

nothing cold about that stamp, i thought warm and fuzzy thoughts the entire time:D
the stamp i used on this one is one i held back, just a typewriter/serif font on a gentle curve over FORUMS in a simple sans serif (like my utica)
When and in what order do things get narrowed down here???
If my postings are causing confusion just let me know, i hope they are not.

Ivankerley has come up with some nice designs it's true. However I am partial to Charlie's original design, exactly the way he drew it. It has a nice folksy, rustic, front porch, rocking chair look to it. :D ;)

If only it had a coffee stain it would be perfect.

The original, while certainly appealing, is perhaps a fraction too "sterile". I think my reworking ads a nice down home folksy touch.

Slightly more seriously, I love that design from Ivankerley, (not to mention that lovely knife). I'd be perfectly happy with something like that.

I would agree with those who feel the .com is unnecessary.

Still like the ebony but i think we're out numbered on that:)
I don't know that I have nearly enough time on BladeForums to have much of a vote, but I agree that ebony or even micarta would be nice. (No disrespect at all to the phantom stag donor; that's a great gesture.) OTOH, the vast majority of those writing opinions in this thread seem to be in favor of stag.
To me, this is nearly perfect. (See above comments about scale material. :))

Thanks for your suggestions, and graphic magic, Ivan.
We need some more information before I can set up some polls to "narrow things down" as you say. In the mean time, the comments and creativity shown here are helpful elements in this "brainstorming" phase. I'm sure it will all lead to the perfect "storm"! ;)
