Thanks again to all for your comments. My only regret is that I didn't have a full day Sunday - that's usually the best chance to hang and chat with people - particularly when the Saturday crowd was as healthy as it was this year.
I'd love to hear how this year stacked up to last in terms of attendance and sales - my perception is that attendance was up Saturday versus Saturday.
Dave - small world that you got to see that Massey so quickly - I'm glad your friend was pleased with it. Hard to imagine it would be otherwise. I need to have Roger make me one.
Joel - congrats on the Best Folder award. I'm sorry we didn't get to meet. I did stop by your table, though and looked over your terrific fodlers - as well as some REALLY nice little straight knives. I asked and got permission from the lovely lady at your table to take a pic, but regrettably, it was one that came out too blurred to use - probably jostled by someone in the thick mid-Saturday crowd.
Alferd - good spot on that up-sized Sendero.
Murray - I got two and a half knives at the show - and you can count on show-and-tell when they have made their way home.
1) This big Hanson:
Here's a 12.5" blade with stag. I'm fairly certain that my knives look better than my photos.
2) A way cool Nick Wheeler clip point hunter / small fighter that was donated by the owner as an auction knife. I figure I had NO chance, as this was a silent auction that concluded 3:00pm Sunday when I was long gone. I thought for sure I would be outbid - so my thanks to all of you, known and unknown, who could have dropped a higher bid on me, but didn't. And a real BIG thanks to the owner who donated it - that was a very generous gesture. I'd love to hear who got the sweet John White damascus piece that was also on the auction table. I need to get hold of Nick and see if he has a pic of it, because it escaped both my camera and my pretty extensive Wheeler photo archive.
3) The "1/2" knife is one of those "check under the table" pieces. Michael Ruth Jr. had a terrific damascus bowie blade completed, but didn't get the handle done in time for the show. Which proved fortuitous in many respects. It's a long - 11" or so - slim blade similar in proile to the Ruthless models shown, but in West Texas Wind pattern and with a nice long clip. Michael had a piece of ivory set aside for the knife, but I asked him to finish it with the piece I picked out at the show. This should be a personal record for shortest gap between buying handle material and seeing it on a completed knife.
