2011 Forum Knife Discussion Thread

I begged out of the discussion of the Forum knife this year because last year it seemed like the crowd went in the exact opposite direction from everything I suggested. Even though you did not hit the nail on the head for me this year (anything done by committee never does) I think I'll jump in on this one. Overall I like it and appreciate the efforts of all involved but I do have some comments. I'll be ordering one and will send a USPS MO even if I have to include the PP fees, seems they will go to a good cause anyway.

Easy Open Jack - Love 'Jack', not so much 'easy open'. That blade doesn't need it and it ruins the lines of the handle.

3-5/8" - Almost ideal for this style.

Spear master with swedge - Yes. I usually like my blades a bit more 'stabby', this one has a good shape if it doesn't get any more broad.

caplifter secondary - Unnecessary and I would have preferred a single blade or a pen blade secondary but with the caplifter, definitely not a deal breaker.

nickel silver bolsters and liners - Yes. Great for looks and maintenance.

brown jigged bone similar to peach-seed style - Just what I like. Wouldn't touch it in ebony.

propeller shield - Suits me fine.

1095 carbon steel - Just lovely.

half-stops - Learning to appreciate them on larger blades with stiffer pull.

candle-tip end - Classic, I like it.

long pull - Goes well with this blade shape.

2011 BF tang stamp - What it's all about.

custom labeling on package by member Ivankerley - Interesting, can't wait to see one.

this will be a new pattern by GEC. - Cool!

Payment of $100 sent for one knife. Still not clear if that's enough.

Anyway, thanks Andy, Chris, and Campbell for taking up this challenge. Looks to be the best year yet!

Paypal sent for 1 knife. A big thanks once again to Campbell, Chris, Andy, Gene, Charlie, and anybody else who helped out behind the scenes. I'm definitely looking forward to this as I've wanted a full size EO for a while now and it's very cool to see one being made by a company such as GEC. It's even better having a small part in making it happen and the cap lifter is the icing on the cake.

Paypal for 2 knives and email sent.

Thanks to every one who is making this happen.

I want one of these no matter what but a recent thread about tight springs has given me concern.

This is going to be a GEC with half stops. Sometimes GEC's are nailbreakers and when they are it's almost always a model with half stops.

I know that the plans are already under way but is there any way that you guys could persuade GEC to keep the blade pull at a reasonable level?

I don't mind tight springs at all to a certain extent but I don't want to have to struggle to open the blades on this gem.

Thanks.

I don't know how but I missed everything between which pattern and today. Almost missed it but got my PayPal in: Unique Transaction ID # 1NF19283CR737332K

Thanks for your work on these gentlemen.

Don't know how I missed the other threads but...

I'm so happy to get in on this one. Thanks a million team for great efforts in serving your knife brothers!
I ordered two (through PayPay)!
Actually, while Waynorth does own every knife in the universe, that old Remington pictured above is mine.
Here's a similar one on the top of the picture with brown bone. Maybe an even more likely resemblence to what
we will be getting.

Very funny! :D
I wish I did - no I don't - it wouldn't be any fun any more. It's all about the hunt!!
Actually, this will be my first EO with a screwdriver/caplifter! I am stoked. Since delivery is before Christmas, I ordered four (4) knives, and I urge everyone to order some extras. Like the 2009 Barlow, this one is gonna be something special!!

PayPal payment sent for ONE knife.

Thanks to all of you who did the leg-work to make this happen!

I'm probably going to wish I'd ordered more than one... It's going to be something very special!

I have been living as cheaply as possible because I am looking for work. I bought two knives. Just a thought...my reasoning is that hopefully things will pick up, but if they don't I know I can sell it to someone on here. Pretty safe investment. Just a thought, like I said...

Hi Railsplitter -

Since this knife will be an Easy-Open, you will be able to pinch the blade and pull it open.

I suppose the shorter secondary tool could be hard to open, but we can ask that of the folks at GEC when we engage them again.

best regards -

Thanks for the response, Andy.

I don't know what I was thinking. The fact that I can pinch the blade open went right over my head.:o:o

Thanks for listening though.

What Andy said about the pull weight...I'd already had that on my agenda for the next time I speak with GEC

I've got three or four knives that have tough springs - all of the Schatt and Morgans have pretty tough ones and my newest Winchester has a pretty tough pen blade. I find that the hardest to open on all of these knives is the smaller pen blade. All of these knives have half stops and I tend to lose my nail bite when the blade snaps to half stop then again when it snaps full open. I find this mildly irritating and it is rough on my thumb nail. I hope the forum knife will be a bit easier than these on the bottle opener; I don't worry about the main spear. - Ed J

Paypal sent for one. Thanks again to the organizers. It's a tough crowd to satisfy no doubt, but it sounds like a winner.

Thanks Andy, Chris, and Campbell !!!

You have undertaken a big job and are executing it in fine fashion. Are you going to put little "inspected by" stickers on the knives so that we know which of you inspected a specific knife? :p

I'm in for 1 knife. Paypal sent. I rounded up my payment to $100 'cuz I could. :)

No one is going to kill me for ordering this knife, as I don't answer to anyone.. Yippee!!!!
