2011 Forum Knife Picture/Review Thread

Just got home from work and opened up my Forum knives. What stunning beauties! :D

Opened first two bottles of Sierra Nevada Celebration for my lady and myself and plan on a lot more "research" as the evening progresses

Thanks to GEC and all involved!

Hi folks -

I opened mine last evening and carried it with me today. I did not cut anything, but after I left the gym, I went to the liquor store and bought some practice bottles of Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Barley-wine Style Ales. Just for research purposes, of course.

haha -excellent video, mqqn. Finally a "survival" video I can relate to :D:thumbup:

hang on a sec-what happened to the other 3 beers Andy?
thanks mate you've put my mind at ease re the caplifter.
cheers.

Im liking mine a lot. Is it perfect? No. But, it is a $100 production knife, not a $1000 custom.

The good? The bone is gorgeous. Overall fit and finish is great. Nice strong springs, but not nail breakers. Both blades are perfectly centered.

If I had to nitpick, there is a small gap on the blade pivot end of the spring of the main blade, and snapping the blade closed leaves a ding in the edge. It must really snap into place, because putting pressure on the spine when closed indicates plenty of space in there. The tip is just barely proud, and you can catch a fingernail with it. Oh, and the bottle opener doesnt work worth a damn. If I can get a bic lighter to open a beer in one pass, I shouldnt have to work around the cap being sure to grab a ridge, just to open a beer.

A little filing and sharpening, and I'll have a really nice little carry knife.

I love mine. Have no complaints except I wish I ordered two (Dad would have loved one).

Great video, Andy!
But. . . . . it took you nearly 3 seconds to open that Ale!
I couldn't possibly wait that long to stick my snout into my Ale.:grumpy:
I am therefore suing GEC for Gross Negligence, and for purposely dehydrating my body!
Think I can get a million bucks?? It won't make up for the pain and suffering - but it will buy a lot of knives!!:D:D:D

Update: I "adjusted" the bottle opener, and now it works flawlessly. I put a better edge on it, and touched the kick to get the tip where it should be.

As long as I dont slam the knife closed, this thing is awesome. :D

Well I went to the PO this morning to mail out some knives and pick up my mail. I really was not thinking about my new knife so I sent the other knives out and started to walk away from the counter. Then it hit me. The morning truck had just left. So I asked Miss Pat "Any packages for me?" She went to the back and said "Why, yes there is a small one that just came in. But I have to scan it in." I thought, that's the one. She handed it to me and I was off to work. That little package just sat beside me for 40 minutes while I drove.

When I got into my little office I shut the door. Then I opened the package. There it was. Christmas had come early. Just opening the tube and smelling the machine oil was enough to make my day. Nothing could happen to ruin it. I slowly unwrapped the little fella.

I would say almost perfect. The tip if you really want to push it is just a half a c-hair proud.

Here it is with some company.
Now it sits in my pocket ready for business. Thanks guys for all your hard work.

Andy,
Be careful with that Barleywine ale, I had a friend dare me to finish a six pack, I could not do it, and lost my keys for 2 yrs without leaving the house! LOL. Anyways! I have my knife!!!! Whooo hooo. I never thought I would like an EO jack, but hey, it is easy to pinch open that fat blade. There almost is no need for a long pull nail nick. I love the shape of this knife. Too excited for a full review right now, and have to go to Universal City walk with all the kids in tow. I will find a soda shop somewhere you betcha.

Thanks Andy, you are the stud of the knife shipping world.

Thanks Jake, but you are the one that has the real nice collection and great pictures. I had to take some quick pics at work. The light is crappy in my office.
The turkey gumbo is yummy if I do say so myself.

Lovely photos guys! Thanks for sharing with those who weren't lucky enough to get one (he say's thru' gritted teeth grrrrr...:D).

I'll do my best to get on the list next time.

Keep your eyes peeled in this forum for your chance to pick up one of these beauties!

I am waiting to make sure all of the knives reach their homes, then the 2011 Committee will be posting a thread for people to win the chance to buy one of the extra knives that were produced for our order by GEC!

Hey, that's GREAT news Andy! Glad to see a few folks will have a second chance at one of these.

I wish I'd have bought two!
