2011 SHOT Show: Spyderco with Sal Glesser

I agree.

Sal Glesser is a Legend and should have been treated as such and with respect.

When Legends speak we should listen and not talk.....

Lol, you can talk, but he kept brushing him off for self shots and bs about the price list. Admittedly I don't like nutn, so does play a role.

Like I said, Sal has better people skills than I do.
If I'd had been in Sal's shoes the situation would have ended with two pissed off people.
I never was a good diplomat.

Yeah, I'd probably be the same.

I never picked up on that in the least. Sal did most of the talking and the job of a good reporter is to ask questions, stimulate the interview, keep the information flowing etc. I think it was really a super interview. YMMV :)

Sal did do most of the talking and nutn did add have good comments. After watching again, I think the first 2 minutes are the part that stuck with me. After that, Sal did really do the majority of the talking. Conflicting personalities maybe.

Regardless, Spyderco has some fantastic stuff coming out.

Watched the clip again. I didn't know Spyderco used an overtravel safety on their frame locks. I knew about the "lock stabiliser" ones on Hinderer and Strider frame locks, because it is visible on the outside of the knives, but I didn't know they used one on the inside of the handle on Spyderco's frame compression locks and Reeve Integral Locks, that's pretty cool. Does anyone know if Chris Reeve uses a similar device on the Sebenza and Umnumzaan?

Thanks for doing this Sal.

I did not know a Ti Native was in the works. That one is going on the list for sure.

And to you guys complaining about nutnfancy, he provides a service to the community, and you should be thankful. Without him you wouldn't have this video or the information it brought. Are you guys going to go out there and donate your time?

Thanks again Sal.

:)

I see your point and am glad he does the videos. Was more of a critique/complaint, albeit possibly overstated. Definitely nice to see the products and hear about them straight from the source.

Also, if not a legend, definitely more than just another anything. You've helped shape an industry and are big part of why I love knives so much. A definite thanks is in order, so thank you.

Now back to the regularly scheduled programming.

Nutn is a legend in his own mind! :barf:

.

Thanks for taking the time to show off your new knives, Mr. Glesser! :)

I don't really like nuttin, but he does have some good info if you wade through everything

but he is far from donating his time, his videos have generated him quite a good cash flow

And you would be - his accountant?

He is making money on his videos.....

I agree but not that much. Do you click on his adsense ads or hit the X in the corner of the box. Trust me, the most money he's making is maybe his T-shirts, and other crap, and the new $85 sprint run of Ontario RAT-1 folders. NnF is the most popular because he's the best reviewer. I think he was the 6 or 8th most watched reviewer of "anything" on YTube, last time I checked.

The only way he would make serious money is to take payment to give super interviews on knives & gear from manufacturers. I don't think he does. I think he gets knives & gear easily fronted to him to review, but he always says that they're "on loan" and not sure if he's going to buy them or not. I don't believe he's a thief and taking pay-offs. YMMV

I never said he was a thief. :D

I don't know about the best, that's more of an opinion than anything, but his videos are well thought out for as long as they are.

Long Videos aren't easy to shoot....

I like to keep mine short and to the point personally.

Crk heat treats there ti so it doesn't soften from over use

I'm not talking about the steel insert on the lockbar to prevent it from wearing, I'm talking about the overtravel stop, which prevents the locking liner from bending outwards too much, when you disengage the lock (the round thing you see on the frame lock of all the Strider and Hinderer knives). Sal starts talking about it at about 16.40. I didn't know Spyderco had used a similar device for so long, I thought it was exclusive for Hinderer. It seems Hinderer and Strider just made a bigger deal out of it than Spyderco.

It also makes me curious, is there an overtravel stop on all Spyderco RIL locks, for an example on the Karambit?

I know, I said "I" don't think he's one. I like NnF Project. I like your videos and So-Lo's vids a lot too. :) I wish yours were longer sometimes. :(

Sorry, let's get back on track here!

I was thinking about making some longer ones in the future, still keeping them fairly short to like 15 mins. :)
