2012 BladeForums knife --NEW update 2-22-2012

We have too many international members to NOT have international shipping.
With great respect to Gus's offer, I don't feel his offer should be necessary.
I guess this one is in Kevin's court!

I think plenty of people will be willing to step up as proxies to help push this knife through if that's what's required. That's what this subforum's about, right? We're all folksy types - it gives the knife a more quirky, human quality.

Having seen the earlier Blade Forum traditional knives I can say with certainty that I am in, as long as I don't have to sell a kidney :D

I don't have a problem with a deposit as long as the knife is decided upon beforehand. I'm just curious as to what the benefit is doing it this way as opposed to paying the full price upfront. For me personally, that was one of the nice things about the Forum Knife. There was no need to have funds available when they were finished. It also seems like it would be more work on the back end of the project having to collect everybody's final payment before shipping. It's not a really big deal to me if that's what works better for Kevin, though. I'm just glad to see he's willing to work with us to keep it going for at least another year.

Can't wait to see what we decide on.

Let's see, first there was the 2005 Uncle Henry Lost Souls knife, then there were the 2006-2011 Traditionals Forum knives, (got 'em all), I've been here for all of 'em so far, I think I'll be here for 2012.

Postin' here to keep updated.

Is this open to any member, or do you have to be active in the traditional forum?
It is open to all BF members. It will be a traditional pattern of some kind.

Fellas, exactly how this is going to work isn't completely worked out because we have never done it this way before. As we used to say in the research labs, "If we knew exactly how to do this, this would be being done by Production."

That being said, we will collect the comments and try to work out answers.

Still looking for volunteers for the committee that will determine what knife it's going to be.

I will be glad to lend a hand to NONCONUS folks who have a track record here in trad. (Just do not stick me with those shipping fees :D).

thats right neighbourly of you.
cheers.
re shipping fees from the U.S. i've alawys been amazed about the vast difference. sometimes its $5 sometimes they ask like $40 -
it must be a rort . it can't be that much different from one place stateside to another.
cheers

Last year all the knives were shipped Internationally with Priority Mail International small flat rate box which is now $16-95
Insurance is not available but we never had any missing parcels or knives. I hope that if Kevin decides to ship Internationally that he uses the same method.

Steve...... all I can say is yes to that Sir, we overseas members are an important part to the Bladeforums.

Depending on pattern/price I would be in for one as well. I don't think that doing it the purposed way hurts the process at all. As long as the knife is still voted on by the members it does not matter who orders and ships the knives. Having an actual store to do this would only simplify that part of the process.

Now onto the "gimme a sowbelly" portion of my post :D

I would love to volunteer to help, but I just published my second novel and started a business. I don't even have time to eat most days.

I'm sure this new system will work fine.

My priorities will be

PATTERN

WHO MAKES IT?

HOW MUCH?

I'm definitely interested, but can't commit to anything until I know

HOW MUCH?

PATTERN

(I trust the "who makes it" will be consistent with the two criteria above and the quality of past offerings, and won't be the deciding factor for me....)

I'm most likely in for the purchase.

I would love to help out with the process/committee, if it's needed.

This month has been hectic, but it should chill out, and allow me more time in the Forums.

Frank how many volunteer positions are needed, and what specifically are they needed for? Creating polls for deciding on what pattern, maker, etc? I'd probably be willing to volunteer if I actually knew what needed to be done :p

I'd love to be on the committee. I guess we now need a committee to figure out what the responsibilities of The Committee will be. :D Will the committee be the ones interfacing with the manufacturers to determine availability and cost? What about price negotiations? I assume that would be under the purview of Spark.

Sounds like we're going to be wrestling with a lot of cats this year, but once this process is standardized, next year should hopefully be much easier.

I can't seem to find any pics of the past BladeForums knives. Would someone mind pointing a new guy in the right direction?
