2012 Buck 124?

It's a terrible pity!! I am always too far away
to to do in Rome as the Romans do. :(

Has anyone used Handtool.com before? Does anyone know how good/bad they are?

I just ordered two from Larry O, and cant wait to get my hands on it. It seems as though every time I get a 124 I sell it off quickly after I get it. I don't know why. Yes I do... The 124 is an addiction all its own. One I can't afford. I like the knife but they are so expensive that knowing me and the fact I have to over due everything I don't even get myself started. If I get one, I will have to find every one made and that can break thew bank.

I also have two on order from Larry. Looking back over the years I have been using and buying, sometimes collecting, Buck knives for 40+ years. Used my first one as a 5 year old, my Father gave me my first one at 9. I carried that one in my pocket for almost 30 years, still have it. With this in thought it seems like a good idea to join BCCI. Only once have I been disappointed with a Buck product. This is more than I can say about almost any other product I use. My life membership is in the envelope. Now all I need is to find a stamp.:)

Best 100 BUCKS you'll ever spend...

A little encouragement for those eagerly waiting for one of these......

I just asked and he said he just got three of them in.......and that was one of the first models he requested this year.

So, I imagine he will start filling orders in the order that his orders from us came in.......so some lucky Buckaroo will be posting pictures here pretty soon, I'd guess.

Another perhaps useful factoid.......ordering direct from Buck yesterday on the veteran's discount program, I was allowed to order a 124 even though they showed none in stock at this time.

I don't know if that puts me ahead of an order that has been placed with a specific dealer or not......but I thought it was worth a shot as an experiment.

It appears that these are already appreciating! The seller that has been listing them on the bay has sold 6 (every one he's listed) They started out as a BIN for $154.95 delivered, kept going up in price to $172.95 and are still selling.

Sure glad I got mine before the price escalations started!

Got an E-mail from Hand tools that the 124 was discontinued. They offered to refund or send me something else. A refund it is.

Interesting. Could it be that Buck has reached the limit that they are going to produce? Seems I recall that it was supposed to be limited to 500 but according to Joe (via oregon) that over 700 had been produced and that it was slated to be made this year only.

It could be that many hopes will be dashed and orders go unfulfilled. Larry said right off that he would be limited in the number of them that he would get and later after receiving the first three, still had a ton (70 or 80+) on back order.

Here's mine and it's a beauty in my opinion. The second picture is a comparison of three if my micarta models. The top (new one) and the second one are nearly identical with the new one having a slightly thicker handle that's a bit more gray than the older one. The third show a different grind/shape of the choil and blade (possible regrind?) but the blade is full length. It's handle is noticeably thicker side to side than either of the others, but narrower top to bottom.

I talked with a CS person at Buck this week - attempted to order a 124 under the veteran's program. She said okay - but it may be August before I saw my knife and I'd have to pay for it now. She suggested I have my dealer order it for me - or call back in a month. She also said that indications were that it would be a production item - like the 060 Hoodlum . Like the Hoodlum, she expected early deliveries to be slow - and the demand to be initially high. I guess I need to learn paitience... naw, not me! "I want my 124... and I want it now!" (Paraphrasing the tired TV commercial...).

Interesting side note re the Ron Hood knives... a local store wasn't moving their stock - and marked them down!

Another interesting sidenote... seen an 895 Simonich/Buck Legacy lately?

Stainz

Stainz, could you give any details about the Vet's discount, such as personal info needed at hand and the percentage of the discount? My brother and a cousin, both Viet Nam vets, would like to take advantage of it, but want to be prepared before calling Buck.

Thanks

I think I answered this in another thread already, but for Dave and all the others who might have missed it, the answers to those two questions are:
1. No special info needed, just have your credit card ready.
2. Fifty percent off.

:)

I'm aware of what you said. I'm getting old and forgetful but I'm not that bad yet. ;)

I was asking Stainz for his experience when he called.
