2012 condor line

I'm sure it would make for quite a chopper! I'm curious now as to how that stereotypical form evolved, given the absence (as far as I've seen) of real-life examples of the style. And the closest style is actually French!

Maybe you could modify the Dadao when it comes out?

That's why they need to make my Baryonyx! :D

The Baryonyx is a cool idea but i was more going for something a bit thicker and more cleaver-of-death style.

Yes I have to say of all knife makers today they have nailed it! Done their homework, someone spent a lot of time surfing forums and got it right. So many knives I want. A legit line of survival and bushcraft knives, nessies, that Hudson Bay.....hell yes I will be a new CN&T customer in 2012. Didn't get half way thru the catalog. Killer

I'll bring it up again, with condor becoming more popular and looking like a home run line for 2012. There should be condor sub forum. Just my opinion though:)

More like the two-handed "beef splitter" cleaver I posted earlier? 16" heavy blade with a 18" handle!

Or maybe something like this!

And I'll agree again!

Sooo many cool blades coming from Condor this year , they def have their finger on the pulse , they NEED to make a Baryonyx tho. The beef splitter is pretty cool too .

I would buy one of those 2 handed cleavers in a minute. LOVE to have one. Steel would have to be hard enough & thick enough not to roll or dent though. I have already destroyed one cleaver. Hit bone & it rolled AND dented the blade pretty bad. 1/4" thick would be good.

Yeah I figure 1/4" thick with their "classic" finish, wood scales, and a reasonably deep grind like on their new Heavy Kukri model would do great. Or even better, put a gentle full flat grind on it. Not too much taper so it doesn't thin too much near the edge.

I love my Condor Golok. Last year, when the company came out with their 2011 lineup, I was enthralled with many of their offerings, like the Thai Enep knife, and the Boomslang. I waited a very long time, and kept checking certain retail sites for these items. Between the loooonggg wait time where the knives never came in, and the reports of poor QC, I kinda dropped Condor from my short list of new favorites. I feel they dropped the ball and let me down.

Recently, I have read more than a few reports of broken Goloks and Thai Enep machetes (not to mention the poor track record of their earlier SS machetes breaking all the time).

Before I place my trust in this very promising company again, and spend some cash on newer items, I'm going to need to hear of definite improvements in their heat treat and quality control issues. Exactly how do you poorly heat treat a simple carbon steel like 1075 so that it breaks while hacking unchallenging vegetation? Is it poor heat treat or inclusions? I'm bothered by this.

The 2012 items all look like home runs, and that Pack Golok is a bona fide grand slam.

Joe, 42, what are your thoughts?

Thanks.

Heat treatment issues only seem to crop up in early runs of an isolated number of models. I haven't heard of any Enep knives breaking, but I know that one run of the machetes had a heat treatment flaw that caused them to be on the brittle side, and they quickly corrected it. I've only seen one example of a Golok breaking and it was due to an inclusion. If you ever do have one of their pieces break on you all you have to do is send Rick Jones an email with photos of the broken item and a shipping address and he'll get a replacement sent your way. With regard to fit and finish they've taken a lot of steps to improve things, though their QC is still lower than that from other major companies. But that's why I inspect everything before it goes on the site. ;)

Really looking forward to when the 2012 stuff hits.:thumbup:

Condor may have a little worse Fit and Finish, but that just leaves a little room for modifying it to your own tastes. I, personally, haven't had any issues with any of the Condor items I have bought. They each came with no faults that would be a deal breaker, especially considering the price point. Besides, it seems most people like to mod them to their liking anyway.

Like I said, they've really upped the QC over the past year. Most defects I end up finding are relatively minor, like small gaps next to pins on one side or the grind at the tip being a little uneven. Some of the thicker models have been suffering from shallower primary grinds and thicker secondary grinds lately, though. The actual edges have been fine, but the bevels have been thick. I'm considering making some of those models optional "Special Grade" items with thinned bevels on account of it.

Joezilla posted on the FB that Lou Ferrigno stopped by their booth to pick up some steel. The Hulk has good taste. My Hudson Bay was a steal as far as I'm concerned!

Talking with Joe Flowers, the newer models are supposed to go into production next week. The release date for "most" of the new product would be around April... assuming nothing terrible happens.

Even better! I know the Kephart will be slightly delayed due to some minor changes they want to implement, but other than that I haven't heard of other delays.

I watched that vid at 4:30 in the morning, and it got me excited seeing them in hand. (which is odd, as I was up for roughly 26 hours at that point) There were some I wasn't sure I'd get.. until I saw that vid.
