2012 discontinuations?

Sad to see the OD-1 go. I played with an OD-2 and the OD flipper on it is amazing. I can only assume the OD-1 is even better. Hopefully I can pick up an OD-1 before the stocks dry up.

Meh...the list is long but when you look at it, there is not a lot of meat in it.

Thomas,

Looking back after your post, I can see what you mean. While there are many items, it doesn't seem like a lot of the core product line is disappearing. It seems like a lot of variants of designs are leaving, but not necessarily the main model itself.

Canyongargon,

I have both the OD-1 and OD-2. I may take some flack for this, but I prefer the OD-2. It's small size makes it a great office EDC and the flipper is much easier and smoother to actuate on the OD-2. I actually wouldn't mind seeing an OD-1 sized import brought to the product line as an OD-3.

Time to pick up an Orange Zing... Come to think of it, the Damascus Zing looks like it might get picked up as well since I'm buying :)

why are they discoing the zing? just not selling enough?
The Zing was our most difficult cut for 2012. It sold well, but the brand had gotten a little too wide, and we had to make some painful decisions, discontinuing the Zings were one of them.

Thomas just so I am clear, the auto line is being dropped? I saw another member state it as a lack of shop floor space. Is this correct? thanks!

Hi Tom

Multiple reasons why on the auto's, but time (or lack of) being the biggest.

Thanks for the fast response Thomas, as always your one of the main reasons I think so highly of Kershaw!

I've just started to get into Kershaws, and this discon list is very disappointing. I've recently gotten three on the gallows list.

I would hope Kershaw will continue to manufacture (new) flipper-included knives that are not assisted openers? I respect those who like SpeedSafe, but AOs are not my "style."

I was sitting on the fence on the Baby Boa, but now that it's been discontinued, I just ordered one from Amazon while I could still get it.

Fairwell Ram. Too bad we'll never see these happen

There will be an all stainless frame-lock import with the same profile and size. No striations. It will be A/O. $49.95 MSPR. Available 1st quarter 2012.

Is this knife still being produced? Also, any word on the Volt SS?

I know this is an old thread that got recently resurrected, but I have to thank SpyKers for that. I was looking through it, and was looking up some of the models I hadn't seen before. Now, I've got a Talon II on the way, as well as a RAM. I knew of the RAM before, but I guess this pushed me to snag one.

Mmmmm, I can't wait. Thanks!

I ended up buying an OD-1 because they aren't going to be around for much longer. Have to say it was an impressive knife for $50 - might just be the smoothest knife I've ever owned. I ended up giving it to a friend not too long ago and he's been happy as a clam with it. If anyone is on the fence about it, I definitely recommend you grab one before they're gone.

I'm confident that if you can repeatedly open the OD-1 without issue, no flipper should ever give you problems...
