2012 discontinuations?

I'm confident that if you can repeatedly open the OD-1 without issue, no flipper should ever give you problems...

i have seen this statement made by several members, and i just don't get it. my OD-1 is probably the easiest to operate and smoothest opening non-assisted flipper i own. i can apply far less pressure than i do on my skyline or zing and get it to open very quickly. heck, i can even wrist flick mine open with no flipper action at all. and yes, the pivot is tight with no blade play. maybe i just got lucky?

Mine is the same way. I love the OD-1 and wish that flipper style would be used more often. It has a lot of advantages.

Some of the OD-1's had stronger detents than others. While mine does require slightly more pressure, it flies out really smooth. But the initial pressure is more than say a Skyline or Zing. I've heard it varies knife to knife.

Any word on the Zing SS or Volt SS?

I'm glad I was able to encourage more Kershaw purchases by reviving this thread. I will be the proud owner of a Groove shortly.

Mine was just the same - very smooth action even with a tight pivot.

I have heard that there have been a fair few people who've experienced problems because they were inadvertently bearing down on the lockbar while they try to operate the flipper. That would definitely make the knife a pain in the balls to open. Maybe you were having similar difficulties, Scurvy092.

Yes, switching the knife to tip down carry helps immensely. I used to press the lockbar inadvertently when opening this knife which made it very difficult to deploy. I switched the knife to tip down carry so that my finger rest on the clip now as opposed to the lockbar. It's one of my FEW tip down carry knives. It will also carry much deeper.

One note of caution, making the knife tip down makes it impossible to adjust the pivot without removing the clip. Quite a pain in the ***. It's still worth the hassle (just use locktite on the pivot before you switch the clip).

I don't have any issues with opening my OD-1. What I was saying is it is a good knife to learn how to operate a flipper, especially being a frame lock. I'm not saying it is hard to open.

I'd like to see someone who can consistently and easily open an OD-1 that can't do the same to every other flipper out there.
