ONLY VOTE IF YOU ARE/WERE SERIOUSLY PLANNING TO BUY AT LEAST ONE KNIFE

Hey everyone,

Sorry it's taken so long, but rest assured that the committee has been running around like chickens with our heads cut off working on pushing this project forward. The process this year to bring the knife to fruition is alot different than previous years. The Old Way involved an, in my opinion, unacceptable financial risk to one of our VERY generous forum members. To remedy this, this year's knife will be sold and distributed through Spark's One Stop Knife Shop [.com]. Ironing this out has been a bear. Also, Canal Street Cutlery and Queen have been completely unresponsive this year. While waiting for feedback from the manufacturers, IVANKERLEY was kind enough to gin up an unofficial comp "photo" of the proposed knife concept:

Then GEC came through big - they're willing to release a new knife pattern for us which will bring the knife more in line with the Bose photo that was voted on. They're willing to meet all of our specs to a T:

The problem is, if 200 knives are purchased, the cost will be $125+shipping. The cost may go up if less knives are purchased. Hopefully this doesn't turn off too many people. If it does, we can look into three other options:

- remove a (clip) blade to lower cost
- start from the drawing board with a different one-bladed knife
- give up alltogether.

So, please vote on the fate of the 2012 knife, but only if you were seriously planning on purchasing at least one. Also, please let us know in your post how many knives you were planning to buy, so we can tally that up. Thanks.

I'll be the first post - I voted that I'm willing to buy it as is for $125 - and I'm going to buy 2.

I'm in for one, and I have no doubt that all will be sold....keep it as is..it's too perfect to change....

I'm in no matter what, I've got 'em all so far anyway, no point in breakin' up the family.

Wow! Kudos to GEC. I'm in.

One thing I noticed in the photo from GEC is that both blades appear to have cut swedges. The swedge on the Wharncliffe blade should be a drawn swedge and the swedge on the clip blade should be a cut swedge... that's how Tony makes them... and that's how it is shown in IVANKERLEY's photo.

Here's an explanation of cut and drawn swedges from one of the swedge maestros.

Hi Guys, first post this year, life has changed a lot but I hope to be around more often again :)

I voted to "Remove the clip blade to lower the cost" but not because I want the cost lowered, and not because I don't think we will sell 200 @ $125 each, I think we would.

I voted that way because I would simply prefer the knife if it had a single Wharncliffe blade, I would carry and therefore use the knife more like that, a bit less weight, width and complexity.

Plus I have a few knives in the original configuration (Wharncliffe and Clip) and I almost never use the clip blade, I just prefer a wharncliffe for almost much everything.

While I'm being a pain in the butt, I would also prefer a long pull on the blade and a softish spring so the blade can be opened one handed with some skill and a strong thumb :)

I can 1 hand open and close the 2011 knife and love it :)

That's if I was having the knife made specifically for me though, and I do very much like the exact knife what you guys have come up.

I would vote for GEC too, they make the best slipjoints in their price range in my experience, especially the Northfield stuff.

Whatever happens, I promise to buy at least 3 knives, whatever they end up being :) Does that count as 3 votes? :D

well this is a good way to add another traditional so I'm down for one. I would be happy with the current 2 blade or the single wharncliffe would also be pretty sweet.

Keep the way it is. I will get one for sure hopefully two because I want to carry it.

I like it either way, but the single blade wharncliffe does sound like a winner.
No matter what, dont scrap it.

I voted to keep it, and will buy 1 knife. I agree the Wharncliffe blade should have a drawn swedge.
200 knives will sell out IMO.

Voted to remove the clip as that would be my preference, but I am in for one either way.

Not sure, but will GEC make the main blade grinds hollow ground or flat ground?

Thanks.

I am in if we keep two blades. Just have too many single blade wharncliffs to spend on another one. :)

I voted to keep it "as is". If changes can be made to the swedging, as Jake posted, that would be good. I'm in for one.
I know how much work and worry went into this one so far. Thanks guys and gals!
