2012 KITH Photo Thread

Stacy,

The historical background of your entry married with your craftmanship, will make this piece a highly, sought after collectible.
Great entry.

Brian

The final list is:

Medtech
Dan Pierson
Nightman
Jwalk84
Quint
Mike Fennessy
Gody
rwn2000
Bigblue17
Hengelo
Bladesmith

I will generate a random list, and your recipient's info will go out later today, (or tomorrow, as my email server seems to be down right now).

Some advice on packing and shipping:
Pack the knife securely in a mailing box ( USPS Medium Flat Rate Box or similar recommended) and ship it within five days ( if possible). Taping the knife in stiff cardboard to make a protected bundle, and then packing that in the shipping box with newspaper padding is the best way to prevent shipping damage.

Send it with insurance and a tracking number ( delivery confirmation). Priority mail is best for domestic shipping and to Canada for those in the US.

Email me the tracking number, so I can keep track of the knives and know when all are sent and delivered.
sapelt@cox.net

If mailing to an international destination, check with the post office about the special papers needed. Fill out the description as KNIFE, and the value as $100 ( or as you determine the value). Mark the item as GIFT.

Putting in a letter or note about the knife and any thing that you would like the recipient to know is a good idea. Include your email and phone number if you wish, so he can contact you directly with comments and questions.
If you make certificates for your knives, put that in, too.

Thank you for participating in the 2012 Christmas KITH.

Stacy E. Apelt - Bladsmth

I sent all but one by PM, so when you get your recipient, PM me back to let me know you got it.

Awesome entries so far!
Nightman- I'd be interested in learning your methods for your spine jimping, is it all hand filed? The knife is sick!

Amen! I normally think of tactical knives as boring, but this one is exceptionally designed and refined. Just that little spike is impressive in and of itself.

I received my KITH gift knife from Dan Pierson (post 3 this thread) in the mail today. Really nice work, Dan, I like it a lot and it cuts like a laser. I had half of a left over pork roast in the frig and i was able to make almost paper thin slices with this beauty. I'm not sure what flavor of dead animal will be on the Christmas dinner table yet, but I know what I'm going to carve it with. Thanks, Dan,

And a big thank You to Stacy for handling the KITH. I know it's a lot of work.

My KITH knife arrived yesterday from Mike Fennessy. It is a superb knife, and the sheath is even better in person than in the photos ( which were really good looking). I'll tell you how much I like this knive....I think I am going to use it.

Thank you very much ,Mike.

Hengelo77 and I were matched to send our knives to each other and I recieved his today. A beautiful, razorsharp hunter with an impressive and much worked sheath. To my surprise, Bart even sent along some leather and other sheath materials that were new to me. A very classy touch. Thanks a bunch Bart, I´m going to put the knife to use on deer and boar as soon as possible.

Again, thanks to you Stacy for running the KITH.

Brian

Believe it or not, the random match placed you two together. With both in the EU, it certainly worked for quicker and cheaper shipping.

Stacy, there was never any doubt in my mind about that and like you said; The shipping was fast and smooth cause we did not have to ship across the pond.

Happy holidays everyone.

Brian

I got Jwalks blade this afternoon. His pictures do not do it justice. The handle on this blade is somewhat unique and very easy on the hand. Great sharp blade that looks really good with the etch he did.

Thanks for the knife and thanks Stacy for running this whole thing.

I went out to get the mail this morning and was completely blown away to find this at my door:

Mouse Hawk by Stacy.jpg

an utterly amazing piece of memorial art by Stacy Apelt. I love it!

Thanks Stacy, Merry Christmas.

Thanks Dan. Enjoy it. It is a very unique piece.

On a side note, a collector called me yesterday about purchasing my Bill Moran Hawk. Bill was working on a hawk/kindling axe when he passed away ( larger than this Mouse hawk). I finished it and handled it with the same materials used on yours. It has provenance papers from the estate. I have never tried to sell it. He heard about it from someone who saw it on display at a show. It is the only existing Moran hawk/axe known.

I'll end this post with a photo I took of Bill in his smithy as I remember him. This was before age and illness took so much out of him.

Faith matched Gody and me up.
He got my knife and I got his fine folder.
And a fine folder it is! It is designed and made with an eye for detaill.
When you handle it, you keep playing with it and don't want to put it down.
The Ti is nice and grippy and the rest pleases the eye as well.
I got me a handsome EDC for Christmas this year :D

Merry Christmas everybody!

Received an absolutely awesome knife today!! Very fine craftsmanship-will enjoy using it immensely! THANKS night man

Got back from traveling for the holidays and had an awesome PAIR of knives from quint waiting for me! Absolutely beautiful work. Both have great hamon lines. Also the kitchen knife has a burl sheath that is really cool. (edited to add: It's actually not just a kitchen knife but a sushi knife with the wide bevel on one side) Thanks so much, they will get a lot of use!

The line in the picture on the hunter is from my lightning, not a scratch.

I received a knife from rwn2000. Awesome knife. I don't make knives of this style and I was hoping to receive one like this. Excellent craftsmanship, I put an edge on it and placed it in my display case. Merry Christmas to all.
