I'm open to about anything, and the sunfish seems to be a popular possibility. Does anyone use these? I can't see myself ever having a use for the large rope knives. A baby sunfish at about 3.5" is an interesting pattern. I got a chance to handle some collectors club knives this weekend, this one is a baby sunfish with a spear pen combination, and I can see how it would be a heck of a cutter! So I can see your point ET10.

This is about the same size as a cattle knife, interesting pattern.

I like it! I can see how a full size sunfish maybe cumbersome. I like this idea.

Tortoise shell acrylic with a shield!

Corey, I like GEC tortoise shell acrylic too.
But, on this particular (and somehow rare) pattern, I think that darker handle materials would suit its elegance better. Ebony, dark (black/grey/green) micarta, something like Case's grey bone...those would look better to me. Just a matter of personal taste, of course.

I was in the same boat as you were Fausto in terms of not being familiar with it.
The measurements I found on the Kawamura I posted were 3 5/8" closed with a master blade of 2 15/16" and pen blade of 1 3/4". Half stops on both, weight of 2.8 oz.
The rarity of the pattern in today's market is definitely a large part of its appeal to me. I also like the sheepsfoot master blade, though I agree with the sentiment already expressed that it could be tough sell. I also like the setup having the small blade in front of the large one. Some of the GEC patterns put me off to a degree by having the small blade behind the large one. I like the size and think it would be pretty pocket friendly.
In any case it was a pattern that really stuck in my mind once I saw it and figured I'd toss it out there.

Thanks for tossing it :)
I have no idea of the "market feedback" of a sheepsfoot master blade. I know that I like this knife, and the fact it's uncommon makes it more appealing. The same way that Charlie's #85 Harness Jack attracts me more than the "standard" 2011 BF knife. So maybe it could be a nice option for 2012.
At the beginning of this thread, I was thinking about more common patterns, and I still like the idea of GEC making a Peanut, or a Canoe, for us in 2012. But then, a two bladed gunstock, or a clip/wharnie dogleg, attract me more. And, as days pass by, the idea of bringing back a less common pattern gets stronger and stronger...

I like the idea of making rare patterns or old ones that aren't made anymore. Especially when it encourages the maker to release the pattern again to the general public! :)

excellent philosophy
bring back a classic American pattern
all good

Congress pattern with Ram's Horn handles.
is Ram's Horn sourced here in the States?

If it's not, I assume I can provide all the ram's horn needed. 95% of knives here are made with it.

Seems to me things are coalescing around four patterns: (1) whaler, rope knife, (baby) sunfish; (2) congress or congress jack; (3) wharncliffe trapper; (4) peanut.

Does it seem that way to anyone else?

I would like to see a Jumbo Whittler, for those who like the toenails, the main blade is about the same size, give or take a hair.

That is one interesting looking pattern! Great idea, Rusty1.

It looks like I'm alone regarding the Sowbelly w/clip and sheepsfoot. Still would like to see some smooth black micarta, though!

And here's another borrowed pic, this time of Schrade's 294 and similar patterns (credit goes to Charlie/Waynorth). You get a better idea of what I'm looking for than the following one which is one of my 294's

Either a GEC #48 WT or Jack a la Schrade 294 would easily kick this knife out of my pocket as my most used

I really like 2Dead's suggestion of the Schrade 294 pattern with the turkish clip blade. I have the same Schrade Walden. Wonderful carry.

You are not alone, jazub. This would be an awesome pattern, black micarta and all!

thought this one was kinda cool, love the big ol' sheepfoot/ropeknife blade! Alot of character with the swedges etc.
also like the executive whittler from 2010, that was a classy pattern

Thanks to supratentorial for posting the catalog images and waynorth for the whittler pict

First, let me say that this is a gorgeous knife! Having said that, I don't really see much difference between the spear blade and the pen blade. Ya, I know ..... the spear is a little longer & fatter, etc. My point being that on any knife with multiple blades, I prefer two or three distinctly different blades. Clip and sheepsfoot. Wharncliffe and pen. Clip, sheepsfoot and pen. Just my $.02.

I like that Congress Jack alot, really nice pattern and something different for sure. I can't really see myself getting behind a sunfish/toenail, maybe a baby. I've voted in the past for a whittler and I'll throw that back in there as well. I do love me a whittler. And I'd be good with a sowbelly as well in a trapper or 3 blade, nice handle pattern that I don't currently have.

I don't know, Wayne. I think some more random interjections will occur before we narrow it down - early days yet!

Realistically we should keep it to patterns we can actually use our bladeforums stamp...I love that we are going to use it on each years knife.

Buck woud be awesome if they could do a custom 301 stockman for us. I would like to see jigged bone. (maybe they could use Sandvik or CPM steels)

...

Other patterns I would like to see (if not buck):

- a Coffin Jack
- a Norfolk pattern
- an ebony TL-29
- a single spring, two blade knife, about 3 to 3 1/4 closed with very thin blades.
- and yes, a single blade whaler!

I'll cut my self off there.:D

Does it have to be a folder? I kind of like the old "Little Finger" 156 OT that Schrade produced when they were still in business. :)
