I say Congress Jack.

Very interesting and not often seen. I like it.

Nate.....

A fantastic idea....a remake of the Remington R423 pattern not often seen except Ryuichi Kawamura example in the post above and Fight'n Rooster's Irish Congress from years ago.......

I would like to see a Jumbo Whittler, for those who like the toenails, the main blade is about the same size, give or take a hair.

That Congress Jack with the large Sheepfoot blade is great! I prefer a double-end one though, with a single spring.
A Jumbo whittler is cool too!
A Jumbo whittler has a lot of the toenail characteristics, in a package that it a bit more practical.UlsterHeavyWhittler.jpgUlsterHeavyWhittlerSprings.jpg

A 3 1/2 to 3 3/4 inch Lanny's Clip would be pretty cool.

Totally agreed!

If not, I would be happy with whatever is decided, but I like the idea of supporting a company that supports this site. If GEC began doing so, I'd be doubly happy to support them!

I'm usually not a big fan of sunfish and was planning to say that a sunfish would be a deal-breaker for me, but it might be nice as a desk knife. Would have to be smooth wood. NO SECOND NAIL NICK!

But, since I've been digging small knives recently, a peanut or senator would be awesome. Although I love GEC and think they make the best production knives out there, I like to see the love spread around and wouldn't mind giving another maker a shot at making us happy.

I say Congress Jack.

I'm not a super expert, but I did spend some time in these last few months discovering traditional patterns...and I had never seen this one.
It looks unusual without being weird. If this was chosen as the 2012 BF knife, I would be more than happy.
Ebony with a shield? :)

Fausto

I was in the same boat as you were Fausto in terms of not being familiar with it. Several months ago I was looking through a book on knife patterns and values to check on some info for an old factory in Massachusetts. As often happens with that book I found what I was looking for and then spent 30 minutes just leafing through and wishing many of those old patterns were still made. I got to the page on curved jacks and saw an image of the old Remington model that Jim mentioned. I really liked it and went to Google to see if I could find some more pictures. As has been mentioned above it's just not a pattern you see around. Practically nobody makes it. The Kawamuras were the only modern examples I found. I also have some recollection of a mention in the Bose thread that either Tony or Reese made one at some point but never took the time to fully research that.

The measurements I found on the Kawamura I posted were 3 5/8" closed with a master blade of 2 15/16" and pen blade of 1 3/4". Half stops on both, weight of 2.8 oz.

The rarity of the pattern in today's market is definitely a large part of its appeal to me. I also like the sheepsfoot master blade, though I agree with the sentiment already expressed that it could be tough sell. I also like the setup having the small blade in front of the large one. Some of the GEC patterns put me off to a degree by having the small blade behind the large one. I like the size and think it would be pretty pocket friendly.

In any case it was a pattern that really stuck in my mind once I saw it and figured I'd toss it out there.

Tortoise shell acrylic with a shield!

I like your style, Corey. I still think MOP or MOP acrylic would be better, but I think it would be nice to use a scale material that hasn't been used in previous forum knives. So I'd be happy with tortoise.

As for the congress jack........
It certainly looks nice, but I can't help but think that a typical half-congress with only one back-spring would make more sense. But I do like the fact that it is unique! I would certainly be pleased if this pattern was chosen over the sunfish, or whaler knives.

I still think a small equal-end Senator or Eisenhower in MOP is my top choice, with a simple shield, or no shield at all. With fluted bolsters or no bolsters at all!

I like that Congress Jack. Tortiseshell is cool too. But any Congress should have a Federal shield.

Something else that might be interesting to bring back would be the Eureka. As far as I know, no one is currently making the pattern on a production scale. If a company is willing to do it, we could have something very cool.

I like the idea of making rare patterns or old ones that aren't made anymore. Especially when it encourages the maker to release the pattern again to the general public! :)

Knifemaker Jeff Mutz makes a swayback congress jack (in several variations) that can be seen on his website.

I'd like a 3 3/8 barlow, a straight jack without the end butt bolster or an english jack with Stag or bone, steel would have to be ats-34, 14-4crmo, cpm154 (not 154cm) or VG-10 but only if there're treated to to 60 HRC or better, traditional makers seem to slack when it comes to HRC. Made by Schatt Morgan or who ever's fit and finish is the best.

I'm not sure how this works, but if its a democracy my vote is for the Congress Jack with a sheepfoot main.
