2013 BF Traditional draft proposal

So in light of the new design we have seen, and the Goldenrod micarta on the coon skinner....anyone else think this would be a good pairing?

I would prefer it not be the rendition with what looks like a big stripe on the handle. I like it better on the conductor pattern where the color transition is not quite as abrupt. Possibly not quite as dark? I thought though, it was going to be an off white color. But I'm not sure I've ever seen a definite decision on the handles or shield.

You're correct; it is going to be some version of off-whitish/light color. Everyone is just skylarking about all the new colors available lately.

Will the proposed Micarta be a solid resin, or will it be combined with layered fabric (linen)?

I may be wrong, but my understanding is all micarta is a form of layered epoxied material; choices being paper, linen, and canvas. Without this substrate it would be akin to an acrylic.

You are right. "Micarta" is, by definition, layers of fabric bonded together with resin. The original resin was phenolic. Today it can be any of a number of resins, but the most common ones are epoxy and phenolic.

Thank You Frank!
Very good information!!

I've gotten an estimate back based on specifications provided below:

Congress Jack-Blade Forums 1095 Carbon Steel
Size 3.5" - 4"
Sheepsfoot primary blade behind pen secondary blade
Long pull on primary blade
Standard nail mark on secondary blade
Nail marks to be on shield side of both blades set to not
interfere with each other
Blade Forums tang stamp - will have to have new one
made to fit
2013 stamped on tang
Half stops on both blades
Main blade as long as possible but no longer than 3"
Extended spring to close secondary blade channel
Satin finish on blades
Cut swedge on primary blade
Drawn swedge on secondary blade
Bolster and pins to be nickel silver
Square style bolster on both ends
Rattail (one medium thick groove per bolster)
Fine grained paper or linen micarta off white/ivory color
Pinned shield to be long, centered and running parallel to
long axis of knife
No etches
No Serial Numbers

Based on their quote, price will be $129.99 per knife, shipped within the lower 48. International shipping will be more expensive. This is an increase over last year because of the number of knives that went "missing" during shipments and the pain in the ass it was.

I've asked for a time frame on delivery. They need 50% down before they will begin work.

I'm in for one at that price, maybe two ;) I'd like to add that if we are setting an upper bound of 3" on the main blade then the shorter the OAL the better (I'm a sucker for blade to handle ratios, what can I say). Not sure if it's too late to be making comments like this, just sharing my $.02

GEC just replied back with 10 week delivery estimate from time of downpayment. So, if we can get 125 people to commit, we're a go with an estimated 1 Sep delivery
