2013 BF Traditional draft proposal

Go back and take a look at the knife posted on #85 in this thread. Now picture how nice it would look with sunk joints...just sayin'. Is it too late to add this feature?

This year, we're including an extra 10% surcharge for whiners, 15% for bellyachers, and 30% for backseat cutlers.

So in other words most of us are gonna be paying 55% more for our knives:D

The take away for this years knife for me is the 3" blade length restriction - a restriction/requirement that has not (to my knowledge) been a burden for previous years knives. Yes, a couple of those knives it turned out had blades 3" or less but it wasn't a restriction/requirement when shopped. It automaticaly takes away the 3 3/4" and 4" frame choices and quite possibly restricts what manufactures are availabe for this years knife. Maybe it was done for the very, very, very, few who expressed a concern about a legal 3" blade length in their jurisdictions? Yes, a 3 5/8" Congress Jack looks nice - the one I've pictured above is 3 5/8" closed and the blade is exactly 3" long but a 3 3/4" or 4" Congress Jack just knocks your socks off.

I'm of the same mind about the blade length, and am surprised to see the limitation listed, as it was not part of the selection criteria and seems like only a few people suggested it. I am not a fan of restricting blade length on a longer frame, and keeping the blade at 3" is not as nice on a +3.5" frame. I was hoping for a closet to 4" frame with blade length maximized. That said I will most likely get this knife, and hope that the perspective companies can still tender a 4" choice, but think with the blade restriction that it is reasonable to assume a 4" frame will not be a choice.

With that out if the way I would like to thank everybody that is involved behind the scene this year, I am nowhere near a place where I could be relied on to help, and appreciate all if the hard work involved!

Well, let me say that on my S&M Heritage jack, the blade is 2-7/8" from bolster to tip and the knife is 3-3/4" closed.

This copperhead's blade is 3" from tip to bolster and the knife closed is 3-7/8".

So, I submit that a 3" blade in a 3-3/4" frame will look fine. I don't think it would look out of place in a 4" frame because this knife is 4" closed with a single 2-7/8" blade (again measured from bolster to tip).

My question is "What's the deal?" I understand that the knives I'm showing are not congress jacks. No wonder, because I don't have one. I think I may have been one of the folks mentioning the 3" as I know that is the maximum legal concealed carry in Louisiana and several other states and some foreign countries. It was thrown out for information. Do I own folders with blades longer than 3"? Yes. Would a 3-3/16" or 3-1/4" main blade keep me from buying a forum knife? No way, but it might deter some folks. I'm in no matter what happens. I think a 3-5/8" closed to 3-7/8" closed is a great size and bigger than I usually carry and a 3" blade seems to be appropriate in the knives I already own in that size range.

Haven't been around much, I'm impressed to say the least....

I'm sure I'll be down for two again....

Thanks to all for putting this together, (and putting up with us...) Job well done!

Yes, sheepsfoot blades typically ride high when closed on a slim frame but I think that is exaggerated on Congress Pattern knives because the bolsters fall away from the center of the frame. For my .02¢, the sheepsfoot blade riding proud on the 2013 Froum Knife is "much ado about nothing" as illustrated by the following pictures of one of my Congress Jacks.

Lord love a duck - it would be ashame not to have silver (nickle silver or whatever) pins on a knife with white/ivory/light colored covers. Why would anyone even consider brass pins??????? Edited to add: Brass liners would be acceptable - the knife I've posted has brass liners (silver would be nice) but for my .02¢ the pins should be silver.

This knife is so beautiful. There was one just like this that I thought long and hard about buying, but it was a little too expensive for me. If this years forum knife turns out like this I will be beyond happy.
