2013 BF Traditional draft proposal

Please excuse my ignorance. Could somebody post a pic of a sunk vs. non-sunk joint? I'm sure I've known what that means, at some point, but can't remember the term. Either way, I may have a preference, but it won't affect my desire for this knife.:D

Thanks,

It's like learning a whole new language, isn't it? :)
On the top is a sunken joint (well, almost), the bottom one isn't because the tang protrudes from the frame in the closed position. The main advantage is that it is easier on your pants when you don't use a sheath.

I wasn't considering getting one, but the reason I like my 61OT is the elegant look of those sunken joints (I didn't even know they had a name). I'll wait until the specs and drawings are out, but the design is moving in a direction that I like. For many of us that prefer users over lookers, a sub 3" blade is the difference between carrying a tool or carrying a dangerous weapon.

Thanks for that picture Sturzi. Sunk joints is a small refinement that adds to a design in a very subtle way. As I understand it it was usually reserved for more upscale, dressy patterns and the congress would be a suitable candidate. I have no idea if it would add any cost to production or would present any other design or production difficulties. Maybe someone else could chime in on this, I'd be eager to learn.

which model is that GEC? I didn't know they made anything with an (almost) sunken joint.

It's a #57 Wharncliffe Geppetto. The tang protrudes only about 1/2 mm and the secondary blades are not sunken, but the main blade is higher than those so it's pretty easy on the pockets.

Thanks, Sturzi,

Yes, I've learned a whole new dictionary of words in the knife world. It's my second language!

Sunken joints are cool.
